Advisory for exhaust
Options
Had an advisory for minor leak on exhaust back box last April, had a look on the weekend and it looks like a condensation drain hole, the rest of the exhaust looks fine just a bit of surface rust.Anyone had similar as not sure what to do.
Its a 2015 fiesta eco boost and Halfords done the test(had mot’s done there for last 4years without any problems)

I've never heard of a condensation drain hole on an exhaust - though I may be wrong. It can't be too bad though, if it was only an advisory. Do you know any friendly local independent mechanics? If so, odds on they'll be able to do a quick welding job on it for beer money.0

Nor had I until I googled it,the photo shows it on the bottom of the back box wire brushed it,the hole is about 1mm,it’s on the bottom of the shiney raised nib, my friendly mechanic is currently recovering from a heart attack !🙁

Well you live and learn - that's a new one on me!But obviously you don't want to be welding that hole if it's designed to be there - and presumably that's not the cause of the leak.Sorry to hear about your mechanic, I do hope he makes a full and speedy recovery.Anyhow, if it was only an advisory last year, I'd be tempted to leave it for now. There's a good chance it'll only be an advisory again. If it's got worse and turns out to be a failure, then if it's only the back box it's not the end of the world if it needs to be replaced. Exhausts are, after all, wear & tear items.0

If the exhaust is leaking gas, it should be a fail.0 -
That’s what puzzles me, the previous mot’s didn’t highlight it,maybe it’s new to the mechanic who carried out the latest mot. But I did receive a message from Halfords after offering to fix it for £250 😉
Hope a mot technician is viewing this and could shed some light on it.
Actual wording of advisory was- Exhaust has a minor leak of exhaust gases back box (6.1.2 (a))

Exhausts rot from the inside the gases corrode the exhaust - surface rust is nothing to do with it - there is no drain hole on an exahust.

lots of vehicles had drain holes in the silencer used to depend on the angle of the rear box to drain water out and not leaving it in the silencer

It is an advisory, if there definitely isn't a leak* and the pipework is in good condition don't worry about it.*I'd have a good look around the 'box, it is pretty obvious that a drain hole should be there, the tester could have found a leak elsewhere.I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....

Never heard of the thing until now
Are you sure they were not referring to some hairline crack you may have missed?
I've not needed a new exhaust ever o my cars and this days I think they easily last ten years and so many miles etc.
Do they still do those free exhaust checks at halford/National tYres, Fastfit, goodfit, etc etc?
Good luck1
