Direct Collection Bailiffs LTD letter for private car park fine in Scotland advice needed

My husband received a letter today from dcbl in regards to a private car park fine. We have received other letters but never from this company and have been ignoring them all. The date of apparent contravention was from 22/12/21.
No idea what to do, are these even legal in Scotland? Do I continue to ignore them?
We have never had a debt before so I need advice please.

    Hello and welcome.

    A debt collectors letter.

The fourth post of the NEWBIES thread explains exactly how to deal with debt collectors letters but to summarise that post - ignore them.

    That applies in Scotland too.

  • So we just ignore it. Do they ever actually give up as it was 15 months ago.
Is there a chance they may take it to small claims court?

Not in Scotland as long as the driver's identity is not disclosed. As advised above, just continue to ignore and savour the knowledge that they are just wasting their postage on them and they will eventually stop.

You don't have the same small claims system in Scotland. No, they won't.  They do in England but not in Scotland.

    You are not in debt.

You did not get a fine.

But you do need to know that the law is changing in 2024, and in Scotland you must start reading private land signs more carefully in future, because registered keepers will be legally liable for new Notices of Parking Charge once the new Private Parking Code of Practice covers the UK.
