"She was about 5 feet nothing tiny build adorned with identification lanyards so I felt safe"
Never assume.
Part of you being "clued" up appears to be I am bigger than them and male so what harm could they possibly do?
However all sounds genuine but creepy if doorstepping is returning en mas.

I would have thought that it would be extremely easy for someone to dress up as if they were an Octopus employee and to produce an ID that most people rarely ever look at in detail.Mstty said:"She was about 5 feet nothing tiny build adorned with identification lanyards so I felt safe"

The damage to a supplier’s reputation if someone was attacked in their home would be enormous.

I find it a shame a thread that was set up to compliment Octopus Energy and the way they are reaching out to their customers
Gets steered off course and turned out to be a free for all on the dangers of cold calling which by many is already known

Your visit should not have been a ‘cold call’ according to Octopus. They say that emails and texts are sent out prior to all visits so that customers can opt out. Personally, I would like to see them revert to ‘opt in’ and then cold calling isn’t a potential issue.MikeJXE said:I find it a shame a thread that was set up to compliment Octopus Energy and the way they are reaching out to their customers

I think it is always right to point out the pitfalls of cold calling. Never a bad thing to keep this front of the mind. Especially when Octopus have not followed their own cold calling rules.
On a public forum you cannot control the way a thread goes to only be your point of view.
You can however report the post yourself for closure when you have all the answers you need.1 -

Maybe I was missed re the text notice because I'm new. she did say she had called to see someone in the same block and decided to call on me also. After I released the front door it took her 10 minutes to cover the 5 metres to my door so she had obviously been upstairs[Deleted User] said:

My thoughts exactly, having to opt out makes it more likely an attempted visit will take place.[Deleted User] said:

Why should someone who might not normally send texts have to go to expense of doing so.?1 -

‘So proud of our Energy Helpers... These teams work relentlessly to help customers save energy. They used to be salespeople, but when the crisis hit we didn't lay them off, we retrained them.’
