On both of the houses I have bought, my 2nd viewing was also the first time I opened the door to my new house....
You didn't view again just before exchanging to make sure you knew the state of the property before you were legally bound to buy it?!
In over 30 years of buying numerous properties I have never viewed again just before exchange...
Most if not all properties I've bought I did have at least two viewings but putting an offer in before a second viewing (especially when one of the potential buyers hasn't yet seen the property) sounds a bit weird to me.

Every generation blames the one before...

If it's been on the market a while I don't think it's necessary to put in an offer, just wait. We had a similar thing but in our case it was new to market in a fast moving area. The EA was clear that it was getting interest and suggested we might not want to wait until a second viewing - but we made it clear we were very interested and would almost certainly be putting in an offer, we just needed a second viewing to determine what that offer would be.
We got the place, honestly I think it made us look more like serious buyers and we weren't going to play silly beggars with the price after an offer had been accepted.

I do wish I had viewed again before exchange as I might have smelled the damp, everything would have been different as I could have stayed in my rental whilst all the floors were replaced.  I misinterpreted the seller's nervousness as Covid fears.  If I ever move again, I will be more prepared with questions about any floor repairs/roof repairs etc and will ask to try all of the facilities.

Same here, one viewing was enough for me to know it was what I wanted
Ditto. Bought both mine with one viewing. They were shabbier than I thought but it wouldn't have stopped my buying them.
I did do a second viewing 2 months in just to remember it and show my son and I felt that did spook the seller.
  • I’ve offered many times before a second viewing.

I left the property after first viewing and went straight to the estate agents to put an offer in. Not necessarily the recommended way of doing it but it was so much better than everything else in my price range that I just went for it

If I was the seller I would be hesitant to accept an offer if only one person out two have viewed especially if I have other people interested. So I would say best wait for second viewing, they will understand that your partner also needs to see. It also means you are quite keen. If you are now both happy with the place then you can make an offer.
