    I
have just bought her a book off amazon called "Girls Only! All About Periods and Growing-up Stuff" by Victoria Parker I read through the first few pages, seems it will do the trick - hopefully in true moneysaving spirit it will help my six year old when her time comes!

That's a brilliant little book - I got it for my DD, she thought that it was cool.

I wouldnt worry about using tampons and toxic shock, its rare and if explained why it is important to change them regularly there shouldnt be any problems. But being so young-she may not want to use them untill later on anyway, but id give her the choice.

  • I think if i even mention what a tampons for she'd be revolted! she;s very naive for her age. Hopefully it will all be explained in the book!

  • Oh the memories!

I was given sanitary towels (being left in the bathroom cupboard discretly) but I was also encouraged to at least read the enclosed leaflet that is in with tampons. Then it was a decision in my hands.
I suffered from really heavy periods (still do) so it was my decision to progress onto tampons. I'm quite glad my parents did it this way (that's right - my dad was a 'househubby') as this big life changing event was all my choice.

I like sweetpickle's advice for darker underwear - no added stress when the inevitable accident happens.

My Mum gave me brick-like towels and an elastic belt in 1980! So I went straight out and bought stick-on towels, and tried tampons a few months later.

Always towels do packs for young girls. We get them sent to us at school. They contain samples, and a really good little book telling the girls all about it. Might be worth emailing them and aasking.

My daughter has found the always towels that come with an individual wipe on each one really useful.

They are really handy - especially when at school.

Also - she found the wings really hard to deal with - and has switched to standard ones. But she is disabled and really struggled with the whole wings thing

Sometimes it's important to work for that pot of gold...But other times it's essential to take time off and to make sure that your most important decision in the day simply consists of choosing which color to slide down on the rainbow...
  • There are towels with wipes in them now? Wow!
May all your dots fall silently to the ground.
