Can a gas smart meter be installed incorrectly?

Hi all, hoping someone can advise. I recently had smart meters installed and honestly wish I hadn't. My problem is that I can see my gas usage is really high compared to pre-smart. When I recognised this early on, I refuse to switch on the heating unless absolutely necessary but before smart I was putting on the heating. Even reducing the heating control the usage is higher than pre smart. EDF just won't listen. I am comparing KWh. I was away on Saturday, and the gas usage registered 35KWh. The heating is on a timer but it was set to come on if the the temp dropped below 16 degrees for an hour as I forgot to switch it off, but my heating only normally comes on at 18 degrees anyway. Honestly don't know what to do as EDF just won't listen. Edit: I'm using readings from the meter and not IHD too

It could be that your old analogue meter was under-reading for some time?
It has been a particularly cold start to March as well.
However Saturday was fairly mild where we are. Do you also have the hot water to what as well to take out of that 35kwh
Also what power is your boiler in kWh and age?1 -
Was your old meter reading in ft3 ? Have you had a bill with your new meter details on it yet ? If not get oneNever pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill0

Billing for a smart gas meter is always in cubic metres. If the old meter was cubic feet then the supplier can sometimes get into a mess if it doesn’t update its systems and the National database.0 -
Hot water wouldn't have come on and it's a 28cdi boiler set on eco mode and on a thermostat so wouldn't have used the max power output. It's mild where we are too. I should have said when it normally is on for just 1 hr during the weekday in the morning for school with hot water then it uses 10kwh, which fluctuates to 15kwh, so honestly don't know what is with the inconsistency as non one being at home meant 35kwh being used. My average after the smart meter is 60 to 70 KwH a day for a std 3 bedroom house and heating and gas hob in only when necessary, even cooking in my ninja more now.Mstty said:It could be that your old analogue meter was under-reading for some time?

Are you registered for an EDF online My Account ?
Accurate kWh figures are available there, a couple of days in arrears, and if you have 30 minute periods enabled you'll be able to see when your boiler has been working.0 -
Yes I do and been looking at that. It's more the gas flow of the smart meter I'm concerned about as pre smart it was all ok and post smart the gas KWh consumption is really highAyr_Rage said:Are you registered for an EDF online My Account ?

Interesting, I'll check. Although I've been comparing my meter readings before smart and after smart and using the conversion to KWh for both periods so not waiting for my bill to come through.[Deleted User] said:

Would a gas meter need to be attenuated?0

Could it be that the old meter was in ft3 and the new meter is in m3 but you are still using the same formula to calculate?
Ft3 would have 2.83 in the calculation to change the ft to m, now this step isn't needed.Barnsley, South Yorkshire

I am not sure you mean attenuated, but, gas meters are supplied and fitted having been tested, the mechanism they use means that whilst they can under-report usage over time with wear on the mechanism it is almost impossible for them to over-report.sweetibiza100 said:Would a gas meter need to be attenuated?0
