Hello,
Wife recently purchased a car from Cinch. The car was advertised as having one previous owner but the log book has since arrived and it would appear the car has actually had three previous owners.
We have spoken to Cinch who have said the can give her a £100 as a goodwill gesture.
Just wondered how much 1 vs 3 previous owners would reduce the value of a car by?
The car is a rangerover evoque 2016 with 65k on the clock.
Thanks,
C

1 previous owner, then the current owner. Would make you the third owner.
2 previous owner, then the current owner. Would make you the fourth owner.
3 previous owners, then the current owner. Would make you the fifth owner.
Is that correct - you are the 5th owner?
(Disclaimer - registered keepers as shown may not equal owners.)0 -
Would £100 satisfy you?The information suggests the car has been mis-sold.May be human error as in just a !!!!!! up somehwere but you need to decide if you are okay with that.Who or what the previous owners were might influence you.Things that are differerent: draw & drawer, brought & bought, loose & lose, dose & does, payed & paid1

I dont believe motor dealers are classed as previous owners therefor:
Car advertised as having one previous owner from new would make us the 2nd owner not the third.2 -

Exactly what I would have stated
NB: As previous owners is important to many people, especially when buying a newer car, be aware of many one-owner cars that may be rental cars. However, some people do not mind but I would not want one. Yes, the overall conditon and spec matters but like to you, the previous ownership and the price we paid count as well
I'm guessing you paid about 14/15k if its an auto - 100 quid does not sit well with me. I'd bee seeking 5 to 700 or they can take it back
It could be human erro a typo and it happens but 100 quid is close to an insult IMO
Btw, did they offer to take it back?
How long do you plan on keeping it?
Certainly need more than a 100 off
Good luck

for a brand new car the V5 will show 0 previous owners
then the car is resold and you have 1 previous owner and the current owner so in reality the car has had 2 owners but the V5 shows 1 previous
l bought a car that had 2 miles on the clock and the V5 showed 1 previous owners so with only 2 miles on the clock and l was the second owner so the number of owners is not always somthing that you should get to hung up about2 -
what does the V5 actually say about previous owners is it two or three previous owners0

The poster you quoted was not "hung up" about it but tried to help the OP
OP bought the car based on the info provided and paid accordingly but you know the rest,
One previous owner on its own is nothing as the car may have been trashed, that goes without saying
On paper, 2 previous owners may in rreality mean one previous owner, EG, car was pre-reg to meet dealers' bonus requirements etc.
On paper one owner could mean its a rental sho had over a hundred/s of drivers
OP checked the net/ad and paid what they felt was right as per ad but having an extra owner it does come with a negative and its certainly not a bonus.

I disagree on the second.
Say I buy a car brand new on PCP finance, so I am the first owner.
I keep that car for three years and return the car after three years.
Ignore the trade as an owner - as per your first point, we agree on that.
Someone buys the car from the dealer. That person becomes the second owner.
At this point the car has one previous owner.
After a period of time, owner two advertises the car for sale as "one previous owner" but whoever buys the car becomes the third owner. No-one lied or mis-sold, but someone may have misunderstood if they bought that car and expected to be the 2nd owner.1 -
Possible the First Owner was actually the dealer - They are often registered as a demonstrator to meet sales targets that give the dealer a bonus. - the example quoted by force_ten1 above might well have been the case. There is also the problem of people buying and rejecting- not that anything is wrong simply the buyer decides they do not like it so rejecvt.

has anybody ever been asked when trading in a car to a dealer "how many previous owners has the car had" ?
l have recently sold a car that was four years old and had just under 10,000 miles from new. the dealer paid me a very good price and they sold the car for a premium over cars of similar age and the new owner is the fourth owner
so the number of previous keepers had zero effect on the value of the car and did not stop the new owner from buying it0
