Anybody been offered good deal from aol broadband?

I noticed a couple of posts on a computer/broadband forum yesterday where long term dial-up customers of aol had been given attractive offers to lure them to aol broadband.

Just wondering if anyone here has been so lucky?

I phoned aol yesterday to discuss this & ask why I, as a long term dial up customer, had never received such an offer. Got the usual non-commital reply along with an offer of £5 off the first 3 months subscriptions  if I wanted to sign up for their Gold service.

Hardly enducing.  ???
The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.

I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.

    aol, good deal?
best thing to do with aol is to dump it.
who needs software to access the internet?

dont know how aol has any customers?

go and get a real isp, lots of better offers out there with out needing a deal from aol.

I've been reading these threads re ISP's now for a while and although alot of the offers seem tempting (i even nearly went to onetel, but long story) anyway i know aol is more expensive than most of the others but what keeps me using them is the free number for customer service, i'm just worried that if i have a problem (which knowing me is a dead cert) and need to ring, a lot of these other companies charge upto 50p a minute.

I really am very confused (easily) by the amount of providers now, with gb and mb, capped uncapped stuff its all abit over my head, all i want is a good broadband provider which is easy to use, i tried bt and freeserve narrowband years ago and didnt like them much so went to aol and have been with them now for yrs i've now passed my 12 month contract period and dont really want to get stuck into another contract for such a long period and get stung with increases in prices.

I use the internet quite a lot so i need to have pretty much permanent access and more than 1 email address, I've also asked aol for offers to keep me since the end of contract with no joy, so maybe it's time to move on, I'm on bt phone line and any help would be very much appreciated.
ps. dont want to be without access so i would need to move with one of those pac no things i think ??
    Thanks in advance

its been said before. but i think that one of the best broadband isp's is metronet. they are mentioned in many posts and so far i have only had good feedback about them.
i am getting broadband in december and have pre-ordered with them.
they do have a 3 month contract, and prices start from £11.75

Cheers Plumb1, (or should that be spidey LOL)

i will definately try ringing aol tomorrow, and ask for disconnection see if i get lucky  ;)  if they say no i'll either be on dialup or have to crawl back for the time being  :-[ checked out metronet but the one off fee seems to outway the monthly payment especially if you only stay for 3 months  :-/

Plumb, is the £15.99 per month for the next year or just 3 months?

Rushnowt, please post back & let me know how you get on. If you do good I'll follow suit!

    >:( i'm not amused, called aol today and asked for cancellations.

    their response to my request:-

I'm very sorry madam (erm do i sound like someone's granny) but unfortunately as your next DD is not due until the 28th Oct, we can not exept a request to cancel your service at this time, please call back on the 28th if you wish to discuss this again. (too bloody right i will)

I have no idea whether this is just a cop out but cant understand why i cant cancel sooner maybe they just dont want to charge me for half a month ??? but non the less i will call them again on 27th & 28th just in case.

(sorry if thats not what you wanted to hear Cattie, but i'd still ring them if i were you may not neccessarilly get same response :-/ )

so good luck to you anyway ;)

Hi Cattie, I managed to get it for 12 mths,I had to threaten to leave also, the 1st month they said you cant have it but we will give you 1 month dail up free.So phoned back 3 weeks later and asked again, and informed them that i was offered the £15.99 for BB by a manager i spoke to weeks ago.And get i speak to a line manager again.1 minute pause guy got back to me and thaes are his words(in no way have i prompted you to ask for BB @£15.99 sir)they must record some conversations.I replyed No you have NOT,Thank you Sir,you can have BB for £15.99 for 12 mths, then revert to the normal fee.
Dont think I,ll be paying £15.99 in 12 mths though.
My advice is to keep pluging away, and you will get it.
