Morning all.

We're due to come off a fix with Eon in mid-April, and as expected, they have confirmed that our new tariff will be Next Flex.    They have given us the figures (our "quote") as per the "current" rates, not the rates that will (or might not!*) apply from 1st April.    They are accurate in that sense, correct usage etc.

I've never been on the SVT before (always been a switcher) and so am unsure what notification they have to give us (if any) to changes in pricing on the SVT.

So, do they have to give a specific period of notification, or is it something woolly like " a reasonable period" ?

I'm assuming the "quote" that I've had isn't worth the paper it's written on if the EPG "cap" changes.

Will they likely send a revised "quote" between now and 20th April?

Thanks

* Watched ML last night, and AIUI, even if they keep the EPG at '£2500', the make up of the rates is still likely to change, with a higher standing charge.

ETA - 27/3/23 (in case you haven't got to the end of the thread yet)

I've not had any written confirmation of our revised quote yet...

However, I have had an email confirming what my next DD will be, for 1st April.

We usually pay £160 (overpaying).   It should be about £130pm on the new rates.

After the recent Gov payments (£67), they were collecting £93.

These payments have obviously now finished (for us), but they are now saying that they'll collect £93 on 1st April.

I thought it would revert back to the £160 automatically?   Is that not the case.    Do I have to manually increase my DD again?
How's it going, AKA, Nutwatch? - 12 month spends to date = 2.60% of current retirement "pot" (as at end May 2025)

The rates applied under the EPG are set by the government, and not the energy supplier(s).  OFGEM published their price caps for April - June on 27 February.  Quite likely that any announcement will be linked to the budget on 15 March.
  • With faster switching, the 49/42 day notice requirement was dropped from the supply licence. There is a reasonable obligation but the onus in such cases is for the other party to prove unreasonableness.

    Yes I knew that.

My question was about being notified by your supplier of any change.

So does "reasonable" apply with regards being on (or defaulting to) the SVT?

I'm assuming they DO have to give notice to changes on the SVT (EPG)?

  • Hi,
when your fix ends you will default to the SVT applicable at that time.

    Yes, I understand that too.

I'm talking about them notifying me, again, and telling me something different to my received "quote".

I know what's going on.  Many people don't, so I wanted to ask if ADDITIONAL notification would be made and when?

Would have been hard to keep it if Ofgem now announces the new cap only 35 days ahead.

So suppliers can only start to calculate the 5 weeks before the new SVT starts, I don't think anything more than 2 weeks ahead is not realistic.

And this quarter we don't even know what happens with the EPG.

I'm with Octopus, and for the January rate change, they emailed me on the 28th December.
    So advance notification... just.
Edited to add...this is the info they sent me for my electric account, which is nice and clear at least...

I suspect your energy company has done everything correctly if they are quoting the official Ofgem rates.

As confusing as that might be for a lot of customers what they have done is correct.

Whatever the government does to those rate will be published seperatley on gov.uk

I understand they haven't done anything wrong...just a tad misleading for those who might take their "quote" as being THE figures that will apply once their fix ends.

So I can expect another quote sometime before the 20th April... possibly with only a couple of days notice.

Even though I'll probably already know the rates, from the good people here 😉
