Plasticman said:Most 3 bed houses don't have an en-suite to the master bedroom around here unless they're new builds. Personally we have one and I'd hate to be without it but I don't think it would be a deal breaker for most people.
I've seen quiet a few houses where the houses often semi detached or detached had at least three proprer double bedrooms becuse of the intergrated or partially intergrated garages and some of these houses have converted a small ensuite still leaving a nice double bedroom and taken the space for the airing cupboard and part of the landing and orgianl bathroom to crate a new family bathroom - the ensuite takes up just over half the old fmily bathroom
Most 1930's houes in Londonn have a box room and family bathroom and one w/c or a seprate tight bathroom and no w/c and tight w/c next to it - so its the newer largr builds.
One of our kids has a 1970's detached house, same foot print as next door, no integrated garge but kid has 2 double room and a massive master about 19 foot long and 14 foor wide narrowing to about 9 feet on the the side of the shower ensute - looks ace and has many windwos.
OP, its no good having ensuite if the room is going to feel cramped unless you only have the bed there, cahir and bedside table or two and have space and use the other bedrooms for storage wardbrobes

Ensuite is useful in a hotel, but at home I am used to an extra door between the loo and the bed.
But a banker, engaged at enormous expense,Had the whole of their cash in his care.

Yes, where I've moved is new (ish) build and as I'm on my own I've been considering how I can use the ensuite for something else.It was and is an addition that was a novelty but I could do with the extra space now I've gotover the novelty. The 3 bed new builds I looked at when property hunting didn't have an ensuite, they did have a downstairs loo.
I can rise and shine - just not at the same time!

I never understand the hype over ensuites unless you have a very big family all wanting to shower at the same time. I have lived/bought a house with and without an ensuite and tbh I would rather have a bigger bedroom than an ensuite. Our current home doesn't have one and we are not interested in putting one in either.2

Your post, it is the very reason most people will go for ensuite - often couples and or family where people leave for work/school about the same time. Having said that, years ago we only had the one shower room and w/c and had set times for Mrs as she was first off, me next then kids, with a few mins rush in and out for emergencies - thinking back, not sure how we managed so well
If you dont have ensute - just a good-sized seprate toilet with a decent sized WHB is a lota of help
The more toilets/showers you have the greater the maitanece bills,
Personally,w e would not buy a property with ensite if the bedroom was too small becuse of that as room with en-sute has to be big ie master bedroom

Our bedroom isn't huge but has an en suite. I like it, and wouldn't want to have a room without one now. On top of an extra bathroom to use to get ready, it'd useful when you have guests or relatives over to have separate bathrooms, toilets downstairs are usually just a toilet and sink rather than a place to bathe and have a wash etc so serve a different purpose in my view. Our en suite is only small but we like it.This is in a 4 bed detached with just 2 of us living here. It's also very useful if you're having work done in the bathroom, or if toilet / bath / showier / taps develop a fault until repairs are done. When we had our en suite / bathroom altered and refitted/replaced, I can't even imagine losing access to bathrooms entirely during that time and only having access to a toilet.1

I have a 3 bed semi, we don't have an en-suite OR a downstairs loo! (though we certainly have potential to put one in). Our only bathroom is tiny and doesn't even have a bath at the moment!0

En-suites certainly seem to be included in most new build estates, although they wouldn't be a selling point for me. It just takes away from available room or storage space.
