  • Blast! Shower doc said I have left the end of the cartridge in there and upon checking this is correct. I've emailed again asking how to remove it cos it is resisting my efforts. Show's not over yet.

Have you tried tapping the end of the mixer bar on a piece of wood in the hope that the cartridge drops out ?

This thread just gets funnier and funnier...
Could you take a photo of the bottom end of the cartridge? And any chance of a well-lit one of the bottom of the hole...?
I think your best chance will be a length of stiff wire, with a wee L-shaped hook bent at the end. Assuming the remaining piece has a hole in its middle, and a rim inside that...

Anyhoo, Google images seems to suggest it looks like the one for the 'Presto 90877 DL 800S' mixer, but I have no idea. Also mentions 'France Vernet Valve'.

The bottom section - if it's broken off - will have a rubber O ring on it, so will likely need 'pulling' out, and gravity won't do it.
Wire coat hanger? Cut, straighten, bend wee hook. Perhaps pull alternatively on each side. Or make two hooks...

Sorted! Many attempts with a pair of long nose pliers failed but I kept at it and finally I won, yippee! Now to buy a new cartridge and fit it. What more could possibly go wrong (she said, tempting fate).

See how that black end piece has a thread for screwing it onto the end of the body of the cartridge? Somehow that unscrewed itself and remained within the mixer bar when I pulled the rest of the cartridge out. Wotta #!@£*😈

Maybe it'll work if you just screw it back?
  • Not going to take a chance as I have two identical showers that both failed the same week. I googled the cartridge make: guoren - cheap Chinese brand. Into the bin it goes and will be replaced with a reputable one that I hope will last many years.

Cough - are you sure you didn't 'unscrew' the cartridge as well as pulling it out?!  Tbh, I cannot see how that had unscrewed itself, as to do so would have made that end section go back further into the shower mixer body, and I doubt that would be possible.
Anyhoo, it's out. Did you see my links above to possible alternatives? It certainly appears to have 'Vernet France' on it, tho' I cannot be certain it's a replacement.  https://www.divapor.com/spares/showers/thermostatic-cartridge/presto-90877-thermostatic-cartridge-for-dl-800s-shower-mixer.php

  • Yep thanks. I had a recommendation for a replacement from showerdoc and will send my new picture tomorrow to confirm if he still thinks it is like for like. Cheers for the link and other help you have given.
