Where to place microwave out of sight!

We're designing our kitchen but really struggling on where to place microwave. Any ideas? We don't want it on the side and don't really want to see it but it needs to be accessible as we do use it quite often.
We've got some plans but haven't confirmed lay out as only just decided on moving the kitchen.
We're having an island but it's not going to have electrics to save on digging up the solid floor.
The window in the corner is being swapped for french doors.
Thinking the only solution is to have a shallow tall unit or get something built the other side of the chimney breast?

Can I just add that we're looking to not have any units on the otherside as this will either be place for a sofa or keep our dining table there.
  • Hi,
just stuff it in a cupboard and bring out when needed.

Islands are terribly fashionable, but you could put your dining table in the middle of the room where the island is going, and then put units where you want to put the dining table. It will work better perhaps?
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?

I'm struggling with what cupboard on these plans I could fit it in as no electrics in island.

The island will be the prep area within the kitchen and don't really want the kitchen work area spread around the room. Plus our table is always full of stuff as the kids sit there most of the time so couldn't use that for prep.

We have our freestanding microwave plugged in in our full height 1000 ml wide larder cupboard.  The cupboard has a double wall socket in it.

I have wall units and Whirlpool microwave&hood combination - and I really like it. However, it's 60cm wide and I'm not sure if anything similar is available now.

Love alderbanks mixer shelf but would it really take the heavy microwave?
Don't you just need a socket in a cupboard?
GDBs idea would give you so much cupboard and prep space. What is the reason for a sofa in the kitchen? I have seen cushioned pew seats that go with the table.
No one has mentioned the brackets to lift the microwave off the surface to under the wall cupboards. Search brackets for microwave gives all sorts. Or put it in a (reinforced) wall cupboard.

I can rise and shine - just not at the same time!

In this case it can be a built-in MW,
