Parking sign situated too high on a pole for me to be able to read - what are the rules for signs

Options
My local hospital recently changed their parking machines and have erected new signs listing charges per time period, pay by phone details and possibly other information. I'm a shortie so can't really read it properly. I tried to take a photo but the photo is at an angle that distorts the print. I estimate the bottom of the sign to be about 7 to 8 feet from the ground.

Which PPC runs the scam for the hospital? Depending on whether they are a BPA or IPC member, you can find the rules on how their signs should be designed and set in their codes of practice. Search Google for BPA COP and IPC COP.

Name and shame the hospital for their ill-advised change to pay by phone or app-only method as it will come back to haunt them.

    Hi OP

I'm guessing that any driver with the normal legal vision requirement with or without glasses should be able to read these

Put your complaint to the hospital PAL's team. They are often very helpful and if you do get the signers lowered or in bigger writing, you'd helped many people that will be using those car parks.

Lord Denning, Master of the Rolls - the most senior Civil Court Judge from 1962 to 1982 had a Red Hand Rule - the more onerous the term the more prominent notice should be drawn to it.

Margaret Thatcher said that Denning was "probably the greatest English judge of modern times"

If you can’t read the sign ...

I'm guessing most drivers would NOT be able to read the sign.  @Mabel2012 have you got a PCN?

    Thank you all for replying.

Parking Eye is the name on the sign.

See attached photo. It is much clearer on here than on my phone. You can still pay at the machine.

I have not been fined as I didn't park there, I use the bus as vacant parking spaces are scarce and you could miss an appointment trying to find a space. I checked out the signage as a friend received a parking fine in December when they had to wait for hours to be treated. They had exceeded the parking time and gone over midnight to the next day. The machines they tried were out of order. It was the night of the big snowfall, so they didn't check every machine in the car park just the nearest ones. They spent ages clearing snow off the car and were in a hurry to get home. They tried to phone after they returned home, but couldn't get through. The machines have been replaced since then. As I was going there recently, I thought I would check the machines and signs. I was surprised at the height of them, that's why I posted on here to find out the legal situation.

There is a parking machine inside the main entrance but surprisingly there is no sign like the above(photo) with it. I asked reception about the missing sign and was referred to PALS. PALS referred me to reception. That area is not accessible late at night from A&E.

There are no 'legal' rules on private land, except the requirement for prominence, clarity and fairness of signs and terms.  Your friend could appeal using that photo...I hope they didn't give up and pay?

I'm afraid they paid up. They were glad to get home in one piece and without needing further medical treatment,
The signs are prominent and clear to see, if you're a giraffe. Next time I go, I will try and remember to take a tape measure to establish the height of the signs.
Is there a rule about the height of signs in Council car parks?

    Yes, but this isn't one.

    Yes, but this isn't one.
    What is the rule?
If it's considered reasonable for public car parks then it should not be much different for private car parks. Both are used by the public.

Private parking companies make up their own rules to suit themselves.
