What do you rate your energy supplier out of 10

It is getting to the point now, seeing regular posts about some of the big six that there may only be a couple of suppliers that are truly worth a recommendation to move to.

So we are with Eon Next, refugees from Symbio. The move to them was seamless and without error and the billing has been spot on connecting to out smets 1 meter (electricity only household)

I can't fault them perse and responses via twitter are good but when you escalate an issue this is where you get asked the same question over and over again with what appears to be someone that probably couldn't understand their our energy use let alone a customers.

6/10 Eon Next

Will we stay when the fix is up? We are 50/50 on this as we do like a fix deals and suspect there will be some coming to the market in late summer/autumn. EON next have historically put out some good fix deals but if nothing beats our current fix before April 2024 we will probably move to Octopus for either a beta product or time of use tariff that works for us.

The purpose for this is my own curiosity of how people on an energy board(who generally know more than the average energy user) rate their energy supplier and it will aid me and others when looking where to go next and the pros and cons.

Octopus 10/10.  By far the best supplier I've been with.

They have a decent billing system which allows huge flexibility.  And a strong customer focus which means that they are responsive.  The combination allows them to come up with new products (eg. tracker) when others are stuck in a rut.  They also seem to have a strong ethical bias.

They engage properly on twitter, responsive on email too.
That does seem to be the popular opinion, again one of the reasons we may switch to them at the end of our fix.

It would be interesting to know how many have flocked to Octopus over the last year, not least promoted by the UK hot deals mass movement.

A shame for you if they close up shop.

Who would be your preferred supplier to move to. Have you already got someone in mind or will this thread help you with other people's opinions.

Whilst I see what you mean - refugee from Peoples Energy now with British Gas.  I suspect that Peoples Energy good systems spoilt me.  British Gas 1/10.

Glad that rude original comment has been removed.

It begs the question with a score like that why you have not moved supplier?

    Hi OP @Mstty ...

Firstly let me say thank you, I think this is an interesting thread and will be useful for deciding where to go next.

I, like you, am ex Symbio with E.On Next but I would only give them 2/10. Their systems are bad and show I'm both on an E7 tariff and a single rate tariff depending on where I look. Their customer service is appalling by e-mail or phone and they don't understand the basics and contradict each other and themselves (I have communicated with about half a dozen in the past 3 weeks), they don't even understand my question. They seem to have two different complaint or escalation processes dependent on whether you look at the bill or the website, neither of which work.

It is only because of my tenacity that I can survive with them.
  • Current suppliers:

    EDF 10/10
    Green Energy UK 10/10

    Previous suppliers:

    ZOG Energy 10/10
    Eon Next 10/10

Basically, I don't experience problems with energy suppliers.

    two suppliers to review here.

eon 2/10 (polite staff but dont seem to no whats going on and no consistency in replies to questions as if the new person hasn't bothered to read the chain)

ovo 8/10 (quick response to emails. polite. would prefer there was no problem to need to contact them but when there is its been easily sorted)

we were with eon until march 2021 then moved to ovo. some problems at the time with eon not wanting to accept our closing meter reading (have to admit we were a bit lax at reading the meter back then and had an estemated bill). but all sorted or so we thought by May 2021.

november last year we get a random cheque for £125ish from eon. created a thread on here at the time as wasnt sure what the heck was happening. after contacting got a 'final bill' that caused more questions than answers. only mentioned gas and didn't explain the credits or debits reaching the total which matched the cheque. after more contacting we are STILL trying to sort out whats happening (debating going to the ombudsman now or when its all sorted to complain about the run around). right now it looks like our closing electric reading with eon is still 200kwh higher than the opening reading from ovo (looks like the cheque was them agreeing the closing gas reading. remembering that theres been no contact for 2 years at this point and we only no this much because i've been chasing them with emails.)

contrast with ovo (which has gone the same way as when ever we've had to contact ovo about something). named person responded to email within 48 hours. confirmed/reasured gas reading was right according to new eon bill. said if we could provide the final electric bill from eon they would adjust the opening reading on the account no problem.

now waiting on eon to actually provide a final electric bill (2 days and counting since asked)!
