wow! So 10 x 12 x 30? That’s £3.6 million in total! I wonder if he’s sharing it with his sister?1

Just seen the size of the win.😲
That really is a life changing amount(s), especially if you're young, fit and healthy.
Assuming you don't get run over by a bus tomorrow!!
Have you got YOUR will in place?
Who do you want to benefit from your luck? Both whilst your here, and after.
Are your family all going to be round with the hat 😉How's it going, AKA, Nutwatch? - 12 month spends to date = 3.24% of current retirement "pot" (as at end December 2025)1 -
well you dont really need an inheritance. Its kind of like you won one anyway and you get to have it right now.Its me Culpepper LOL couldn't sign in with the old ID so time for a fresh start....0

Perhaps your grandparent would reinstate your equal share of their estate if you give your sister half of your lottery win.GenieBoy said:Since winning the SFL Lottery last year I've recently learnt that I'm going to be disinherited from my Grandparent's Will with my share apparently going to my sister along with her current share.
Is it fair?
Originally 50% was going to my Uncle and me and my sister getting 25% each of the other 50%.

I cant believe you are asking this. In your position I would be telling my grand parents to leave me out of the will. Come to that I would tell my parents to do the same as well. Unless you are an extremely big spender any inheritance you get is just going to add to your estate’s IHT liability.

I don’t think this is true.MattMattMattUK said:Fair is entirely subjective, in some ways no as they are treating you differently, in some ways yes as they are somewhat balancing out finances. You are either going to get £120k or £3.6 million depending on if you got the one year or for life win. If it were the first I would think it were perhaps not fair, but at the same time I can see why your grandparents might have chosen to do it, if you have won the latter I would think it would be entirely reasonable, although I would expect them to have explained their reasoning first.
Either way, you are being unreasonable for feeling entitled to inheritance, if they end up going into care then there is a reasonable chance that no one will end up with anything.
the average stay in a nursing home is 26 months due to the fact that people are usually quite frail when they enter.
there are some long stayers but most people with a property would not run out of money.0 -
WOW This is one of the reasons why I so love the MSE forum. No one said there is family feud and I did say I was only asking for thoughts. I am not angry or ready to contest the Will.Mojisola said:

I already have helped my sister and I'm buying out her equity in a property for far more than what it would be worth on the open market. And still expected to help her out and treat her in the coming future.
I also spent a large sum on the Grandparent at Xmas, way way more than I would ever have had due to income etc.
Now this just feels like a kick in the teeth and maybe I should stop the gifts and only pay the market rate for the property share.0 -
‘Disinherited’ is quite emotive language, assuming your relationship with your family, including your grandfather hasn’t otherwise changed. Maybe try to separate your relationship from the financial decision he’s making here. He presumably knows that his bequest can make more difference to your sister’s future security than it could possibly now do for yours.GenieBoy said:Since winning the SFL Lottery last year I've recently learnt that I'm going to be disinherited from my Grandparent's Will
Is this normal practice? Is it fair?
