Agreed. I assume the formula will get changed in the future. But make hay while the sun shines I suppose!brewerdave said:This whole process seems bonkers to me - burn loads of electrical energy in the day , then switch off virtually everything for an hour or so in the evening to earn most of your monthly bill back !!
Most here seem to suggest they only use energy they would have used at some point anyway. But then I have seen the odd post of running ovens with the doors open!1 -

Sure I read it on the Octopus thread at some point. I suppose the poster may have been joking.SuzeQStan said:

But the way the formula works you are getting paid to use the electricity in the adjustment window, and making a profit on top!1 -
I've certainly read comments from posters who have "recommissioned" their tumble dryer just to increase their usage, along with one poster who said he had gone back to heating with fan heaters instead of the gas c/h - must admit ,thought he was joking !!bagand96 said:

That would be me using fan heaters in a few rooms, rather than GCH. Both achieve the same thing, but I was opting to pay for the more costly form of heating. I'd cut my GCH off earlier in the day, and didn't need it on in the evening. So I shifted my usage out of peak hours.Laundry was just saved up since the previous saving session, so 9 day's (I think) worth of a laundry mountain, just got dealt with within the 3hr period. I wasn't doing extra washing. And tea was cooked slightly earlier than planned, then eaten cold later in the day, with cold leftovers today.0

It is slightly ridiculous to be completely honest, but I suppose it is technically still having the desired effect of reducing usage during the peak hour, even if that result is coming at greater cost.brewerdave said:This whole process seems bonkers to me - burn loads of electrical energy in the day , then switch off virtually everything for an hour or so in the evening to earn most of your monthly bill back !!
Assuming that DFS events continue in the future, I can't imagine they'll still be calculated in this way once these initial sessions are over as the potential for exploitation is far too high.
I've gone to some lengths to ensure that all my energy during the events has been useful in some way and isn't just being wasted for the sake of it (like heating with the windows open), but ultimately I've still used a weeks' worth of electric in a three hour period.
I'm sure there are some people who wouldn't bother with such restrictions, and others seem to be avoiding any kind of artificial inflation during the adjustment period out of principle - if they're willing to turn down essentially free money for their own morals then more power to 'em I say. And while that may be a pleasant reality to consider, they of course won't be the ones sitting in a warm house while the meter practically runs backwards and National Grid pays the electric bill.Moo…0
