If you owe the money then it will need to be repaid back. If you're still claiming benefits then they will reduce any benefits entitlement to repay it back.If you're no longer claiming benefits then you'll need to ring JSA and arrange to pay it back, it can be repaid in installments.0

want to pay it back but as i am only left with £45 a week in the first place which i use as fuel for a carers job which i am likely to loose all of that including my housing so i will be out of a job and a place to live i will be paying it off for the rest of my life, how can i sell stuff or raise the money to pay back quicker without that extra being counted as income?poppy12345 said:If you owe the money then it will need to be repaid back. Which benefits are you now claiming exactly? You mention JSA in your above comment but there's only a £5/week disregard for earnings.

yes was under the job seekers i was allowed to earn a max of £20 a week if declared, but i was paying three gov debts, it should have been only one so they took 100% of my claim and gave me nothing whatsoever to live on, this will happen again as i only get £45. i am now under uc so for every £1 i earn they take something like 60p so if i sell stuff or ask friends to help if i pay back extra they might or will take it as earnings0

As you're now claiming UC then if you have dependant children on your claim then you will have the work allowance. This means that £344 of earnings received each month will be ignored before any deductions apply. (if you're claiming help with the rent)If they're not already reducing your UC to repay the debt then they will at some point. If friends or family give you money to pay back what you owed then it will be classed as savings not income. If you're only selling a few things to pay back what you owe then it will be classed as savings not income.0

so are you saying that selling a car or getting friends to help me will definitely not be counted as income as no work was done.
When they put a figure on what i have to pay back it will mean it they will remove the rent support,
as i previously owed rent, i am under a pay your rent on time or get evicted by the end of the week,
can someone else pay money to me for my rent and me not trigger an investigation as to where i got my money from who is supporting me, you understand why this is so scary.0 -

The same as anyone giving you any money, whether that's to pay your debt or to pay your rent, as i advised. If there's any deductions for your UC then it will reduce your whole amount because UC is one payment that includes many different elements.

during the time that i was on job seekers they decided they were allowed to take 100% of my claim to pay three outstanding gov debts, i told them they were only allowed to take 40% and pay off one at a time, i said they were wrong and had the evidence, for two years they ignored me and carried on until i had paid all three off. I had no money whats so ever for anything so i did some extra work cash in hand so i could pay my bills.
How do i force them to take this mitigating circumstances and re consider the amount owing? As if fact they should be owing me money back due to their bullying tactics, this was the reason i had to do the cash in hand work because of them failing me.
