  • Hello Saturday,

Its been a lovely day here in the hive! We've enjoyed a visit to a local church as part of the heritage open day weekend. The local WI was running an autumn festival & then enjoyed catching up with a good book in the garden.

Money wise, i've finally been able to cash out the grand sum of £5 from a walking app we are using. Its put towards Christmas fund for the kids. So far I have £25 in vouchers. Working hard on surveying etc to increase this. I've also set up some critical illness cover. Next task is wills.

We've found out what is wrong with my partner, its what the consultant was expecting and so treatments start in the next few days. We jointly feel relieved to know what it is and a bit nervous about what is to come. Anyway onwards and upwards.

Tomorrow is a bit of a treat, going for sunday lunch at mums.

    Hello Sunday Evening,

Its been a pretty chilled day in the hive! Mostly me cleaning and him doing a bit. He gets quite tired so can't do so much but we've jointly made sure the house is sparkling for another week ahead. <3

Lunch with mum & step dad was really nice, am a bit biased but think my stepdad's sunday roasts are the best. We enjoyed roast beef, yorkshire puds and veg followed by home made rhubard & custard. Yummy!

If there is one thing me and OH are completely different on is how we spend our money. I am very budget conscious and considering our frequent trips to London money goes very quickly. OH is the complete opposite and he can spend money like water so I really have to rein him in! Today he had theretically spent a 1k in various guises. Luckily I will ignore him and just spend wisely. The wise spend being train tickets for one of our confirmed upcoming trips to hopefully avoiding a steep rising in fares.

Tomorrow is back to work and the start of a very busy week.

PS forgot, I did do something good yesterday evening MSE wise. We are with Octopus and fixed our energy prices for 15 months. It was a bit of a no brainer considering there was no tie in fee.

    Hello Monday,

Its been a naughty day on the snacking front. Just had zero will power which is a shame as i'd gone out for a run before work. It was beautiful down by the beach. Interestingly there was very little water in the harbour. Just like someone had taken out the plug!

So on my 'adulting' quest and i've been in contact with local solicitors to get wills written up for me and OH. Its not cheap but i'd rather do in person and go local. Email sent and hoping to hear back soon from them.

On the finances front, today was a no spend day (yay go me!), tomorrow we are at hospital so will end up at the coffee shop for a cuppa.

Other than that its been quite a 'dull' ordinary day.

Sending love and hugs to you both @Queen_of_the_Hive.  This diagnosis (broadly speaking as i don't know the details) is not what it was even a few years ago.  People recover and go on for years of happy life.  You are an inspiration.   Humdinger xx

So today was most definately not an MSE day. Upon reading in the news that Coldplay are touring next year I must admit I made an unplanned purchase of their upcoming album just to get the opportunity for the preballot sales. After purchase of said album, I then discovered I could have done this simply by registering on their website! Oooops! Love Coldplay though and treated myself to it on LP. We have a record player that isn't used much so this is the perfect push to actually use it.

Also had a mini splurge on some essential items for home - bought the kids a halloween themed pottery painting set which we will enjoy at half term. It was a bargain at just under £7 for 3 characters.

The kids have way too many soft toys and in an attempt to tidy their bedroom I bought hammocks for the cuddly toys & the most dullest purchase was clips for kitchen cupboard shelves. In one of my recent deep cleans I was amazed to discover some of the existing clips were very close to breaking or had broken. It did concern me as we have flour and other equally messy items which would create havock if spilt everywhere!

Today I did get to cash out of Prolific for just shy of £30, this was split to £25 reno & refurb and £4.42 to Investment ISA. The latest top up brought the reno & refurb emergency fund upto £286.09 which sadly is going to be used next week for some maintenance work on the roof & guttering. It is progress of sorts!

  • Hello Thursday,

Oooops its been a bit longer than expected to do a diary update! Last weekend was wonderful, was very happy to have the kids at home for the weekend, it did mean a mamoth task of train travel and accomodation Thursday night, an evening train ride with the kids on Friday and reverse repeat on Sun to Mon. It was soooo worth it though! Kids enjoyed it and we agreed to do it again soon!

OH is doing well with his treatment, no major side effects so far but he has his ups and downs but we are muddling through and getting to know our 'new normal'.

Finances wise, my main credit card is now "on ice" its getting scarily too high and so am trying my best for the next 7 days to not use it (unless I strike it lucky and get to purchase Coldplay tickets!). We have plenty of food in at home and there are no expected spends coming up. I do need to book some rail tickets for end of Oct but this is going to have to wait. Tomorrow is payday / monthly bills paying day.

Today and this weekend is relaxing weekend at home, really would like to get some large garden canes for outdoor plants in pots as they need them desperately. Will purchase in cash for those, other than that its an opportunity to catch up with admin and a bit of cleaning. Hopefully the weather breaks so we can go for a walk by the sea.

  • Hello Wednesday,

How are we in October! Saying that I LOVE October, spooky month, pumpkins, ghouls and ghosties. Hot chocolate, candles and ooozing cosyness!

Finances wise they are pretty grim (still!) but yesterday we paid off another month of mortgage payment & another £55.34 overpayment! Yay. New balance is a lot of fives! Equity now sitting at 17%!

In a bid to cut my spending i've been having a "cards down week" this effectively meant putting my main credit card in my top drawer of my desk and not spending on it. Cards down finishes today as tomorrow we are heading back to the city for the weekend. Def going to adopt this approach for the winter months!

  • Hello Friday night!

This week's working week started badly. We were in the city last weekend with the kiddos and it was wonderful and equally bloomin hard.. We had lots of fun, achieved a lot and felt like we had quality time but I was not mentally in a good place. It was a bad combination of hormones, exhaustion and overwhelm from me and my poor partner was having a bad time of it and he was pretty much unable to do much as he was exhausted due to his condition and the strong treatment reigme he's on. Sunday was just awful, the kids went home back to their dads and I just was not in a good place.Anyhow we get to monday morning and I was wfh from the hotel and OH had a dental appointment. Monday morning was horrific! The wifi signal was poor in the hotel it was an emergency dash at 8.40 from hotel to a stronger wifi spot at the local library. I was late logging on to work computer and I was in tears. My lovely boss who knows i'm having a bit of a hard time of it. She was lovely but when she called to check everything was ok, I was 99% close to blubbing. It was awful! Anyhow I got through that awful day, OH got to his dental appoinment and we made it home very late Monday evening. Its since been a much calmer week since and now am getting the chance to relax and unwind.

Today it was a trip to another hospital to discuss my partners condition with a different consultant so he may be getting some additional pain relief treatment away from our regular hospital. Today was just a consulation that didn't immedialtely result in treatment but this Consultant wanted some of my partners medical notes before proceeding so it feels a little step forward in the grand scheme of his condition. Next week is going to be a significant week, we have the next Consultant appointment to find out if the treatment is making an impact and OH starts his second cycle of treatment too. Right now on Friday night am ok, ask me Monday and it'll be a different story. I'm switching my working week around next week to accomodate Mondays hospital visit and we have an unexpected visit back to the city for 24hrs as the little one is in a school show and I can't miss it!

Money situation its still pretty pants but given that right now there are so many other challenges am just trying not to worry too much about it. Money is being spent without being frivalous and trying to save bits and pieces where we can. OH is also helping out where he can too but he's equally challenged.
