Octopus will read export from your smart meter. If you've not had metered export before thry may have to apply for an export MPAN before they can read it.
Is it the same meter that is currently installed or does it require a new meter?
Just the same normal smart meter. It started clocking up export as soon as the solar was installed. But the supplier can't retrieve that data until the export MPAN is issued and the supplier authorised.

Export top, import bottom for May.
savings for May 2024 using Flux were just over £100 where as for 2023 on variable were £170. Average export prices were mush higher in 2023 at 23p where in 2024 they are 14p.
Average unit price for my import in 2023 was 33p also so much bigger savings to be had.
Happy still with the savings. Junes should be out soon too.
4.3kwp JA panels, Huawei 3.68kw Hybrid inverter, Huawei 10kw Lunar 2000 battery, Myenergi eddi, South facing array with a 15 degree roof pitch, winter shade.

My June estimate is -£27 as of yesterday (import, export, gas and 2x SC).
PPI success. Banding success. Double Dip PCN cancelled! South facing solar (Midlands) and battery. Savings Session supporter (is it worth it now!?)

June '24 had 18.3%% of total exported during the lucrative Flux window, leading to a ~18p per kWh blended export rate. No battery - PV only system.

737.5 kWhrs of metered export with 22.2% of the value of export during peak time. £48.67 credit for the month, batteries not included, £212 including FiT.
  • Hi looking for some advice re Octopus Flux - have 6kw solar, Solis invertor and Fox LV5200 5kw battery. If i eventually manage to source another LV5200 (discontinued in UK) could I realistically expect to be able to fully charge 2 (or even 3) batteries during  the cheap overnight 3 hour period) in the winter when Solar won’t do that for me?  Asking because am thinking of going for an ASHP so want to be able to play rate tunes to minimise Electricity import ££ during peak price period.

@lovelyday why not just buy a 15 kWh fogstar battery, use that and sell the existing one?

If you're inverter can charge the batteries at 6kW, then in 3 hours you can charge 18 kWh of batteries (not accounting for efficiency losses).

Quite easy to switch between tariffs with Octopus so have you considered Flux as a summer tariff and Cosy for winter when there'll be little export.

Has anybody been on Flux moved to another tariff for the winter, then back to Flux?

Was it straightforward switch back to Flux or did they want all the paperwork again?

When I asked to switch, I was told that they would need me to reapply for the tariff followed by a ~2 week wait. Given how lucrative the tariff has been for me, I decided that the £30-40 odd I would have saved during the winter months wasn't worth the risk of losing access to the tariff, and abandoned the desire to switch.

Given that Flux incoming/ outgoing ratio was made more favourable for import, I see less reason to risk it this year.
