I am in the process of having a solar system installed (system partially up and running but still could add a battery at this point), so decided to do some very rough calcs attempting to compare flux vs outgoing fixed and it would appear that even without a battery it works out cheaper to be on flux!

The calcs are VERY rough as I don't have a smart meter but know how many units I used in March last year and have weighted unit usage to the peak rate of flux. So average units per day is 8.6 (I round this up to 10), I then assume 6 units used peak time and 4 units at day rate. I also assumed all my solar production occurred at day rate (so if I did export during peak rate the numbers would be even better!).

I find it interesting that it came out that way so will be interesting to see if I can get onto this tariff without a battery.

Battery isn't a requirment to get onto this tariff.

I was previously on economy 7 and agile outgoing. Paying 16p kWh off peak import and exporting for average 13/14p as the rate is so dire.
With this new tariff I am consistently in profit.
It's an excellent little tariff so far.

Just done calculations on last year. Only approximately as had a problem with smart meter for a few months. 6 kw solar, Tesla batt Eddie and ev. Currently on Octopus Go with SEG
Imported about 5000kwh cheap rate and only 100 during day rate.
     Exported 2100 @ 4.1p
Total cost on octopus go £300 at todays rates.
On Flux it would cost between £500 to £600 dependant on how many units exported in the evening window.
Think I will stay on Go

@andyg9053 Flux isn't meant to be for those with an EV so you can't really expect it to work out cheaper.

Having run my numbers I agree, but in the faq’s on the webpage it says you can have ev. I could have easily signed up to it, thinking those high export rates were good.
This was more of a warning for people to research before making the leap

It all depends on your use case, but if charging an EV I would expect GO to be cheaper. But if you don't have an EV, have batteries or likely to export lots then you should be better off. I know of one person that doesn't even have batteries and has switched to it, as they export quite a bit of electricity and use little in the peak period.
  • I have just signed up too, will give it a go, any export rates i get are better than the 4p crap i am on with Go and agile is a bit of a mixed bag, plus at least i can take advantage of the cheap(er) overnight rate

Transferred from standard 35.41p import/15p outgoing two days ago to Flux. No change in SC for me, no Ev or previous ToU tariff. System only installed Sept 22 so still learning. Programmed inverter to top up the battery 2-5am, hope increase in peak export should balance it. Not interested in forcing peak discharge, more attracted by better export overall. We'll see! Wish I could directly programme the iboost not to fire up during peak time. Need to think it all through and watch the data, but am optimistic.

@Mimikins Do you have the option of heating the tank with gas rather than using the iboost? Might work out cheaper as you'd get more for the export than the cost of the gas.
