Another new tariff from our eight-tentacled friends, specifically aimed at customers with PV and batteries. Looks like it will work well for us...

I am on Octopus's Tesla Tariff  and learned today it is coming to an end with the start of Flux. The Tesla Tariff is only available to those who have a Tesla Powerwall Battery. It is a symmetrical deal - users pay/receive thes same price per unit, c 12p, for export and import.

Hard to day yet if Flux will leave use better off.

The days of prices that low for TEP ended in July last year when it went to 25p/kWh for renewals, so I was expecting it to go at some point soon.

For those with a solar array and battery who are in receipt of FIT payments, you can switch to this tariff if you agree to forego the 50% deemed export payments paid to you under the FIT scheme.

Payments for actual exported energy will be paid under the SEG scheme. You can switch back to deemed exports after 12 months.

Given that the Octopus Tesla scheme only started on 2020, it seems that the two companies have failed to reach an agreement on the way forward after less than three years. I feel a bit cheated. I opted for a Powerwall because of the deal that was on offer. Now under Flux, much cheaper batteries can be part of the scheme.

In what way do you feel cheated? I am sure you have benefitted a great deal from the arrangement?

As a PW2 owner, TEP never worked for me because of the high number of battery cycles. Flux doesn’t take control of the battery discharge so it will work for many PW2 owners and others. It is progress as far as I am concerned but it will not work for everyone.

I can see this being my "summer tariff". Intelligent or Go will still work better over the winter - if they still exists of course.

I very much doubt this is a lack of agreement on how to proceed, it just doesn't make sense to try to offer a symmetric 'net metering' type tariff with the market distortions we currently have due to the Government support schemes.
TEP stopped being a viable tariff for net importers with an EV when it went up to 25p in July last year, so the writing has been on the wall for some time now...
Not many manage to be a net exporter over the course of a full year but I do understand why those customers would be disappointed at it ending.
No idea why allowing 'cheaper batteries' to benefit from Flux makes you feel cheated, if there is anything to be upset about it is that Tesla still do not allow UK customers to force an export from the Powerwall stored energy, that really limits the utility of Flux for Powerwall owners, but that is a Tesla issue, not one that Octopus can fix..
