Coinstar Machines in Sainsburys - Vent/Warning

He was happy to pay the percentage but it was fact that the receipt he got from the machine said he could present this to any checkout in store to pay for his shopping .But he ended up with £2.97 in loose change which is 22.75% of the value of what he receivedphotome said:As you know the machine is owned and operated by Coinstar in Sainsbury’s ( different now in Tesco) and the percentage and how you can get your cash is displayed on the machine or it should be, I have never seen a coinstar where the percentage charge isn’t displayed.
just wondering what you have to complain about2 -
Checkout operators must love you if you present them with £12.97 + percentage charged .Plus you don't no the makeup of the loose change it could be 1p and 2p 😊

At least if it was payed into a bank in proper money bags the cashier only has to weigh it2 -
When I have lots of change I use the self service tills and feed it into them.35har1old said:

We did that once and it took ages to feed the mainly 1p and 2p coins in. The people in the queue behind us were not impressedcomeandgo said:

I would have left my shopping at the till. Gone to to get the £12.97 and then come back and handed the money over to pay. Would have annoyed everyone but it would be Sainsburys fault really as they have a machine in store which does not provide accurate instructions.5

I don't think the cashier would have been impressed at my big pile of 1p, 2p, 10p and 20p's. As I'd already gotten to the end of my shop knowing that the voucher should have been accepted, I could have said - 'Oh hang on I'll go get the money and come back' but that would have held up people behind me, and I wouldn't have wanted to do that. If they have a voucher system that says it'll automatically take the balance off your shopping, then that's what it should do. Coinstar and Sainsburys are not exactly 'corner shop operations'.

I did consider that - but felt for the people behind me... .

He had no change as he had used it in the machine to get the voucher.😊comeandgo said:I’m not understanding, I’ve never used any of those machines but how much change were you getting? If you had given them 3p you would have had 1 £2 and one £1.
The printed out receipt clearly states he should have been able to spend the voucher at the till
Absolutely that
Not a penny to my name as it had all gone into the machine to get the money off the shop

I used to do it at the self service checkouts all the time. Of course, that was before I stopped using cash and it was easier back then because M&S had a bucket type collector that you just dropped the coins into but they’ve since changed it to a slot where you have to put in one coin at a time.35har1old said:

Would still never use a coin star machine though. Before self service and I had to pay in cash, I just counted out, say, £4 in coins before I got to the checkout and handed that to the cashier. Would never have given them more than maybe 40 coins at a time but in those days, they were usually glad to get the change.Northern Ireland club member No 382 :j0 -
That would have been my approach - if you know how much excess change you have, pour it in and let the machine count it. Self-service kiosks at the Post Office also worked - a couple of stamps is easier to store and carry than a bag of coppers.Money_Grabber13579 said:I used to do it at the self service checkouts all the time. Mind you - I have never let it build up that far anyway.I need to think of something new here...0
