Warm Home Discount - Eligible but No Letter

I checked the government website for eligibility and it says I'm eligible.  I haven't received a letter though, so I sent a stamped letter to the address the government page gave in Glasgow.  I've heard nothing back from them and the deadline is 28th February.  I'm just checking I haven't missed anything.

You can phone them, I got through quite quickly yesterday. This is the first and last time I've qualified for the payment, but received no letter either. As I had a claim for CTC they had to send my details on to DWP.
However my call yesterday they confirmed my payment was waiting to be processed

  • Thank you annabanana82.  I phoned them this morning and they said I have no energy rating for my home, even though it is a council house.  They cannot proceed until this has been done.  I emailed housing today.  I'm just hoping I get this before the 28 Feb deadline.

That doesn't make sense.  It's not done by actual efficiency rating, it's calculated based on age, type, and size.

However if they are missing a piece of information then the only document they'll accept for proving age or size is the EPC, and Land Registry documents for the property type.

Yep - we get that, what Spoonie was meaning though I think is that they don't *need* an EPC to be done - they can get the details they need via other means if one isn't available. A lot of people have had issues with the helpline around this, and it's one of the things that Martin has been asked to take forward when he's speaking with people about it.

Yes and no.  They probably can, but as things stand, they refuse to.

The system was supposed to have fail-safes if a piece of information was missing.  Clearly in many cases they haven't worked, putting the burden on claimants which is not what the reform was intended to do.
  • I just received a reply from the Department of Business, Energy & Industrial Strategy.  It is not specific to my request as to why I didn't receive a letter even though their website says I'm eligible.  It is a generic letter about Government strategy and they continually point to the EPC Energy rating certificate.  It didn't answer my question at all.

And this is why there really should be a robust appeals process in place - something else as I understand it is also missing!

This is way too important to be being withheld from people at the whim of a helpline operator, effectively!

I'll reword my original statement slightly though - they SHOULD get the details via another means if no EPC is available!

If I put in my benefit details, then most of my neighbours it says:
You Are Eligible For Warm Home Discount This Year.
If I put in my own in the same street, but not on their list.
    Wait For A Letter
You are probably eligible but we need more information.
