Advice Needed Cancelled BA Flight Missed Ongoing Flight

I had a holiday booked through Last Minute with a British Airways flight down to London and a connecting flight to Amman Jordan on Royal Jordanian. The BA flight was cancelled and BA refused to do anything, saying contact travel agent, while Last Minute via thier chat said they don't deal with any changes taking place within 24 hours of flying. The next available flight meant I missed my connecting flight. I've got travel insurance, but who takes responsibility for this?

Was it a package booking, i.e. flights and accommodation bundled together by LastMinute?

Were the two flights combined together on one booking reference, with luggage booked through, etc, or did LM effectively issue two tickets?

Flights only and Last Minute provided one booking reference, when I checked in got all the boarding passes together and my luggage was going through to Amman.

In that case, BA, as operating carrier for the cancelled flight, are responsible for the cost of rerouting you, including unplanned accommodation, and may also be liable to pay compensation too, unless the cause was extraordinary circumstances beyond their control.

I've already contacted BA by phone and they've flatly thrown it on the travel agent (LM) the ground staff at check in have said the same thing. I'm completely stuck in rut, is it worth risking to book new flights and then seek compensation from BA later?

I'm baffled - you have a BA ticket and they've cancelled the flight at short notice, but they're refusing to arrange alternative flights?

Their obligations are clearly spelt out in article 5 of the regulations (and the other linked articles, such as 8 in particular) but I can't understand why they'd be refusing - as you say, perhaps the most pragmatic solution is to make your own arrangements and claim the costs back from BA, but it would obviously be better for them to do all this for you, as they're required to do.
  • Thanks for sharing this. I can't understand this.

I've booked new flights to London then will book new flights to the destination from there.

Just shocked how poor BA staff are.

do you know if your ticket number started with 125 (BA) or 512 (Royal Jordanian)?
    - although I would have thought BA should have still helped you out give even if RJ ticket
  • I got to London with a new flight and the BA desk there were more accomodating, they've sorted us out with flights on Qatar Airways. Very stressfull day, but sorted eventually, thanks.
  • Looking for some further advice.

As you'll see from the above after BA cancelled the flight and left me stranded, I had to make my own way to London to catch my connecting flight by booking a new flight to London. But to get my money back for the new flight, should it be BA or Last Minute who pays for the new flight, at the time BA insisted on passing the problem onto the travel agent.

It's the airline's responsibility to pay up.

    https://www.caa.co.uk/passengers/resolving-travel-problems/delays-and-cancellations/making-a-claim/claiming-for-costs-and-compensation/

    Contact your airline directly

If you believe you have the right to claim compensation or reimbursement, you should contact your airline or airport directly. Compensation is not automatic, and you will need to contact your airline to make a claim.
