    Hi there diystarter

Although I cancelled my auto renew and thought we are never ever ever getting back together I have no choice if I want to save money

I tried all the ones not on comparison sites, Avila, Direct Line etc they were all over the top by thousands, up to £4000 and I stopped looking then

It don't seem to make any difference what driving record you have, no accident since 1962 (that was before I passed my test), no points either

If it goes up next year I will call them and ask why
    Hi
    Thanks
If it does go up next year, could it be the fact that you will be older by 12 months and over  the age that most ins outfits start seeing people as  an increased risk,  I'mjust guessing, LOL

    Take care mate :)

    That's funny about Mercedes.
Nearly every morning I park up in my works underground carpark.
Around the same time a lady parks up in a Mercedes of the same year as my car and we used to say hello etc.

One morning she looked at my car and said it looked nice and was a lovely colour but she'd never swap Mercedes quality and reliablity, plus she liked all the comfort and tech she got with her Merc.

I was a bit taken aback but politely pointed out that her engine and gearbox was in fact the same engine and gearbox as in my Renault.
They both shared the Renault/Nissan H5Ht/M282 1332cc turbo engine and both shared the same Getrag 7DCT300 gearbox.

She replied she still liked all the technology that came with her Merc.
I continued to point out her model was perhaps missing a few things that mine had, like the Traffic & Highway system that will almost drive and steer it's self at any speed, even in stop start traffic and that the "leather" in her car wasn't leather at all, but a man made imitation, that wasn't even heated.

I asked what we would see under the Mercedes badge if we pulled it off, a Nissan or Renault badge but then chipped in with the fact those Mercedes badge cost a whopping £9,000.

Turns out now she no longer parks near me.

Oddly, my insurance auto renewed today and was around a 20% cheaper than last year.

I believe that some of the lower end BMWs are Peugeots under the bonnet.

I bet diystarter's Marc isn't a Renault underneath.  Perhaps it is one of those posh proper AMG's or one of the 'joking' ones with the AMG line on the description but a bog standard inline 4.
