Can't help feeling that the prices you have been quoted are extremely high, as I mentioned in my post upthread we had all fascias, soffits, gutters and downpipes replaced (white with black gutters & downpipes) on a 4 bed detached with 3 apex's and a dormer roof for £3800 all in with a 15 year insurance backed guarantee.

I appreciate that different areas attract different pricing structures but I think I would be inclined to keep looking and maybe try and get some personal recommendations before proceeding.

    Good luck

Thanks. You may be right, but because we have a bungalow, we probably have twice the length of soffits fascias & gutters as a similar sized 2 storey 4 bed. We also don't have a simple rectangular footprint, due to the extensions, which means more materials than straight lines. Not to mention the 7 apex. I'm not making excuses, but now realise we can't compare apples with oranges IYSWIM

I've tried & failed to get personal recommendations. I could try another couple of contractors, but given the reluctance of some I've already approached, I don't hold out much hope.

  • You have to consider length of runs, number of corners, angle changes, size and style of fascia and soffit board, size of guttering (depends on area of roof it's servicing) ease of access and so on.
It's not really possible to compare prices unless you have two identical properties.

    Interim update
Finally managed to get a personal recommendation for local builder who includes this sort of work. Quote arrived within a couple of days of his visit. Same work as other quotes; £4660 + VAT with £660 + VAT to secure start date 23 May, £3k + VAT when work started, balance on satisfactory completion. So we’ve accepted & made 1st payment.
I emailed all those who had visited to let them know.
3rd contractor, who still hadn’t sent quote more than 2 weeks after visiting, phoned several days later to ask if we still wanted him to quote😏.
I’ll update when work done in case it helps anyone else.

    Hi OP

Lonf thread now I've contriubuted before, What I want to say is there is a small chance of exptra work especially if the house is realtively modern ie from 1980's as some not built as expected. Oe of the family has all the gutters etc repalce like you and I'm not sure what the rund of wood was on all 4 sides of the detached house but it was missing and the builder stated ideally it needed to be done could be done without but if it was his place he'd have it done - charged extra 300 and the family member said it made sense most of the money was for the wood,

I've said this before I think possibly on another thread, the graphite colour is the most exnsive - also check the qulaity of what they are fitting as the white stuff especially cn be very cheap and you can tell when compared with better stuff and the fitter makes a load more money

Ask about taking away of the old stuff and when etc

    Good luck

I’m aware of extra work being a possibility thanks.
Bungalow is mainly 1970s, built by local respected builder for his own use, extended 1990s.
No idea what you mean by “the rund of wood was on all sides” but our existing wood is in good condition, apart from a couple of small areas where rain has seeped into joints.
Quote includes graphite gutters & fall pipes as requested. Materials have 20 year guarantee (10 for graphite).
I had clarified with all contractors that quote should include removal of all old stuff etc.

    Hi
Thats were good. I referring to lenghts/runs of wood about 8 inches wide I think it was along the lengths that had been missed by builders and that was added.

Check therir feedback, espeicially if/whe things go wrong as some may not even come back once and at times a joint poorly fitted, the rubber twists and you get drip leak/s

    Good luck

Well, yesterday evening’s torrential rain provided an adequate test for new gutters & downpipes. Only one mini Niagara where the short gutter length just couldn’t cope with the downpour.
3 water butts (400l) full to overflowing in a couple of hours & the drive looked like a stream. Bowling green next door turned into a paddling pool during the match.
OH was right with water butt concerns but I can fix with purchase of 3 rubber bungs.
Next home improvement  scheme is painting the misc pipes which haven’t been replaced.
