Thanks thanks for all the very useful replies.
I’ll jot draw up a crib sheet for when the 3 local contractors I’ve messaged get back to me.
I’ll update with quotes in case it’s useful to others.

    UPDATE

I had to chase all 3 contractors I'd contacted online as none got back to me. All have now visited.
For context, it is a large 4 bed bungalow with 3 extensions, which 'jut out', and an attached car port. We also have 7 apex :o, so by no means a standard 'box'.
We've looked more closely and have only identified 3 small areas of possible rot, all at joints/corners, so hopefully down to paint shrinking & allowing water ingress.
All contractors on Checkatrade, with score above 9, covered by Checkatrade guarantee of workmanship, though I've no idea how useful that might be

    Contractor 1 by email:

"New swish upvc installation (white kr200)   £5,650.00

Removal of all existing guttering and downpipes. Repair any dry/wet rot boards with new 18mm ply plank (if necessary)

New white swish hollow soffit boards (modern flat board). New white swish kr200 Facia capping board system

New 25mm over fascia vents Vented whole guttered area. Over vented system  £450.00

New anthracite swish guttering and downpipes to suit Sq/line profile.

Waste management included £0.00 Safety equipment required £0.00

    Subtotal  £6,100.00  Discount  £183.00  Total £5,917.00

Notes: NO DEPOSIT PLEASE ENSURE YOUR SLOT AND SECURE THE BEFORE THE PROCE INCREASE NO PAYMENT REQUIRED UNTIL 100% CUSTOMER SATISFACTION 3/4 WEEKS INSTALLATION DATE"

(Manufacturer guarantee white 15 years, colour 10 years)

We were impressed with his approach. Son of owner, in business over 30 years. No hard sell

    Contractor 2 by email:

"To supply and fit new white upvc fascias and Ventalition soffits and black guttering all the way around property.
Shape and cut all box ends.
Repair and replace any rotten wood work.
15year guarantee. (manufacturer not specified but mentioned Eurocell and Travis perkins)
    Remove all waste.
£7500 top price (in conversation he said it could be as low as £6k, but 'he wouldn't charge us for work not necessary)
Quote stands for 7days. £3000 deposit balance upon completion"

Started by saying he wouldn't relish the job due to so many cuts required. Was confused by my questions re materials  Anthracite gutters would be £1800 more!

Contractor 3 still waiting for quote

I also phoned another contractor who looked at property on streetview & said "about £8k", but didn't want to visit unless we want him to do the work. He was convinced he had quoted for this property within the last few months, which is impossible.

Sorry for the essay, but it seems a lot and we have no experience of this sort of work. Think we're going to go with contractor 1, unless any of the experts eg @GlazingAdvice warn us off.

I think I would pick no1 from that collection. I’m not an expert like.

    Hi OP

Thanks for taking time to come back and update us.

Slightly expensive but if in London, seems ok as prices seem to be going up daily with some builders

Re the insurance - not worth the paper its written on unless insurance backed.

Pay at least 100 pounds by cc for extra protection/consumer rights

    Th 8k looks steep

    Good luck

btw, the black sofits/facia cost a lot more and the graphite ones, even more, a lot more than the black.
however, when you choose an outfit to replace your gutters etc before signing, ask them for a smaple of the fascia/etc or go down to the shop they are ordering from as some of the white facia/soffits are very flimsy

    Good luck

We’re in Shropshire, so not London prices that goodness.
Ideally we want white soffits & fascias with anthracite gutters & fall pipes, to match new front door & painted garage door done last year.

Looking to minimise maintenance going forward and improve the bungalow frontage which is ‘bland’.
Definitely not shelling out £8k though, so unless number 3 comes up with a better quote, we’ll go with number 1.

We had our 5 bed detached house and double garage done last year.  All old wooden fascias and soffits removed and replaced in white PVCU which included 2x apex dormers, including an open porch ceiling reclad and bay window facia.  All gutters were replaced in anthracite seamless one piece aluminium and matching anthracite gutters in PVCU.  Total cost was 4.5K.

I have to say the bespoke guttering all made to size on site is fantastic.  All came with leaf guards and invisible fixings, a much neater job that plastic guttering plus they can't pull apart and thus, don't leak.  They are also of larger capacity so can't o verflow in heavy rain.

    I’m aware of that.
ALL the contractors quoted on the same basis as only few small signs of rot. Removing existing would bump the price up even more.

    Hi
    Thanks
Yes, 8k is steep. the others and they are all like for like, seek a 15% discount and hope to get 10%. However, check reviews for one that does this kind of work most of the time and good feedback. Also ensure who will be completing, overseeing the work
    Good luck
