Nat West Failure

I recently took out a Nat West credit. I received the card & pin ok, downloaded the app….all good so far. Made one purchase all ok. Attempted to do some balance transfers on the app and received a message “unable to process my request”. Spoke with Nat West on 3 occasions over a week. First representative didn’t know why there was a problem. Second representative said there was an IT issue which would be rectified by 5pm today 1st February. It still wasn’t working so I contacted Nat West again only to be told again that there was an IT issue and no timeframe could be given as to when it would be resolved. Apparently this is affecting people who have just taken out their credit card. I have lost confidence in Nat West and I am closing my credit card account.

  • People only normally take out NatWest products if they enjoy IT failures.

You were not attempting to transfer to an Amex, were you? It took them a months to finally tell me that transfers to Amex were not (longer?) supported..
  • I took out a BA Prepaid Mastercard to benefit from additional Avios points and FX spending, I could top it up for the first two weeks of receiving and activating the card and ever since the 10th Jan they’ve had a ‘technical’ issue which prevents you from being able to top up.

NatWest isn’t alone with a few IT glitches, as frustrating as it may be, things do go wrong.
If you believe you can, you will. If you believe you can't, you won't.

    Secured/Unsecured loans x 1
    Credit Cards x 8 (total limit £51,300)
Creation FS Retail Account x 1
    0% Overdraft x 1 (£0 / £250)
    Mortgage Outstanding - £138,087.38 (Payment 11/360)
    Total Debt = £1,125.00 (0%APR) @ £112.50pm

  • These IT glitches happen quite frequently with all banks, indeed many companies. You don't seem to have had much patience and cancelled within a few days. You may find you will be cancelling again and again if you expect glitch-free accounts.

Did none of the reps offer to do the transfer while you were on the phone?

Sorry, bit late to this thread, but I've just opened a NatWest card and had this problem, and asked via the app chat what the problem was, and I was told it was because I had only just set up the app. You need to wait 3 days after setting up the app before you can request a balance transfer via it. Would be nice if the error message told you this.

It's also annoying that you can only request a balance transfer for a whole number of pounds, so if you want to clear the balance on another card you have to either leave a few pence outstanding, or put it a few pence into credit (unless your other balance happens to be a whole number of pounds).

    Neither is a problem.

Leaving a few pence outstanding could cause you to be stung with interest if you don't clear the rest of the statement balance by some other means. Not a problem, just annoying that you can't just request the exact amount you want to transfer.
