It's difficult to determine the "best" quality picture TV in that price range, as it depends on personal preference and specific needs. However, some highly rated options under £600 include:

    • TCL 50S535 50-Inch 4K Smart LED Roku TV
    • Vizio M-Series M50Q7-H1 50-inch 4K HDR Smart TV
    • Hisense 50-Inch 4K Ultra HD HDR Smart TV
    • Samsung 50-Inch TU8000 Crystal UHD 4K Smart TV

I recommend researching these options further, reading reviews, and comparing the specs and features to determine which one would suit your needs best.

The Vizio isn't on sale in the UK AFAIK. As you say, research and there are better TV's out there. OP I'd make 55" your go to size...

If you have a completely atypical usage like me, you'll kill an OLED.

According to LG, who make virtually all the OLED screens, the three things you must not do are

    1) leave the TV on for hours on a channel with a stationary logo in the corner* (especially red, like 90% of them are......)
    2) Watch letterboxed films or 4:3 content without using the "distortomatic" or "cut-off-omatic" modes that fill the screen.
    3) leave it on menu screens for ages- think plex, youtube, iplayer etc.

Unfortunately, I'm the only person in the world who does all 3 of those virtually all the time, so I can't use OLED.

*I've had a look at a mates LG OLED TV. The day The Queen died burned the BBC News channel logo into the screen- only faint, but once you've noticed it, you can see it all the time. :(
About 20 months ago we bought a LG LG-OLED55C14LB so that warning is relevant to us.

It replaced a circa 2011 Panasonic 43 inch plasma. That TV was still fine, we (just me if I am honest :D) wanted a bigger 55 inch screen. We moved the Panasonic to an upstairs second TV room so it still gets regular use.

We mainly watch on Sky+ and, as we watch a lot of quizzes and regularly pause to give us more time to answer questions, we make frequent use of the pause button. This brings up a blue square with a rotating circle inside it in the bottom left corner of the screen.

After many years of this and only under certain circumstances, we would occasionally notice a very slight residual image of that square and rotating circle on the Panasonic TV screen,.

Our new LG has some OLED care routines so hopefully we won't get a similar screen burn. I will make sure we take notice of your advice.

    Thanks

Apologies to the OP as this is perhaps off topic but it may be relevant to you and others.
A man walked into a car showroom.
He said to the salesman, “My wife would like to talk to you about the Volkswagen Golf in the showroom window.”
Salesman said, “We haven't got a Volkswagen Golf in the showroom window.”
The man replied, “You have now mate".
  • I think Nanocell and HDR technology is one of the best for tv screens. To be honest within that price range you're looking at mainly 4K UHD screens, and you'll get a good picture from any of the flagship brands like LG and Samsung. I recently bought a Samsung QE50Q60BAUXXU at Reliant, and it's such a brilliant picture. They've still got them on sale too, there's currently £528 off.
