Whats the best quality picture 48-50 inch tv under £600 ??

Hi all, hoping you can help me decide which TV to choose, budget £500, £600 at a push.

Ive had a brief chat in Currys, the staff said the LG was a good buy at 479.00 - they look to have this in Costco at 399.00 (Costco give a 5 year warranty)

LG 50UQ80006LB 50 Inch 4K Ultra HD Smart TV | Costco UK

He mentioned OLED was the best but that looks out of budget at 800.00 plus - apart from a Hisense at Costco on sale from 799.00 to 599.00

Hisense 48A85HTUK 48 Inch OLED 4K Ultra HD Smart TV | Cos...

We have a Samsung at the moment but needs updating, dont kno wmuch about Hisense or LG really.

Any advice really appreciated & where to buy as its all a bit baffling with the model differences - (nanocell, qled, oled, crystal clear)

I'm looking for really high picture quality rather than sound as a priority.

Thanks in advance

Be careful when researching HiSense, they have a naughty habit of using the same model number to represent different models in different countries. There were glowing reviews for a particular model in the US but in the UK that same number is a much lower spec model.

LG have somewhat dominated the OLED space, until last year they were the only company making OLED screens (the screen itself not the whole TV) so buying a Sony or Panasonic OLED TV got you a LG screen. Thats now changed with Samsung having started to produce their own after years of being the only major brand not to offer them.

In all but the brightest rooms OLED is notably better than LCD/LED. Unfortunately they are at the more expensive end of the market and not realistically in your budget unless you are open to secondhand.

TV prices are likely to go down a bit in the coming month or two, companies anounce their TVs in January at CES and this years models start hitting the shelves in March/April sort ot times typically meaning the prior year models get discounted off. Unfortunately the deepest discounts are on the higher tier machines but could be some savings... the LG 48C2 was £1,399 when it was launched and is now £900 at Richer Sounds (inc their 10% off all LG TVs) but its likely to drop a bit further when the C3 comes along (though not down to £600)
  • I can view the Hisense in Costco, just difficult to compare when their not next to each other and the spec is baffling

Have a look at richersounds, they offer a 6 year guarantee, and will pricematch (provided it is in stock and brand new at the alternative supplier)

I'd suggest Samsung, the UE50BU8500 at £519 or if you can manage it the Qled QE50Q60B at £650, Samsung are pretty much King of the LED TVs.

Tbh, I doubt if normal viewers could tell the difference in picture quality unless they were side by side in a darkened room freezeframed and you could put your nose against the screen.

Both have their feet miles apart, wider than the average TV unit, but you can buy a pedestal stand with a vesa mount from Amazon to convert them.

I just replaced a 6 year old Samsung QLED with a brand new Samsung Super Mega Fantastic Ultra HDR Neo QLed and I can't for the life of me tell the picture is any different, the QLED was a fantastic picture (apparently, but when I watch other peoples Tesco TVs they don't look noticeably worse to me though)

The B indicates the year of manufacture (2022) A would be 2021.
It's not a bad TV, the 65 makes it at the lower end of the models for that particular TV 95 would be a range topper.
to be honest as facade alludes to, in a normal domestic situation (Lounge) and with that size the picture will look very good and you will probably notice a difference from your older TV.
I have both OLED and Neo LED and in a brighter room I'd go with the LED, I don't think you'll be missing out on anything.

You have to be careful of "slightly different codes". It can mean missing features or lower quality components in a set built to a price. You just have to trawl through the specifications.

The Hisense for the picture quality. If you need more function, you can add that with a Fire Stick/Android box/Roku....

The slightly different code is probably so that retailers don't have to pricematch each other. Big chains who shift loads of TVs have a unique model number- it is just a different sticker on the back, but enough to make it a "different" TV.

Most likely they are the same TV inside, I can't find the Q65 on Samsungs website..

Hisense are China's most popular TV. You get good value for money, and if you get a good one it will be excellent. Reviews are mixed, depending on the build quality of the sample tested.  I'm put off by the poorly translated product specs ;)

Maybe this will help you decide: https://www.box.co.uk/48A85HTUK-Hisense-A85H-48-OLED-4K-UHD-Smart-TV-wi_4318941.html
It's a bargain. I'd pair it with a separate device for applications, buying it for the picture and sound quality alone.
