Thanks I just called in Curry's & they had the Samsung Qled qhich looked pretty decent ideed.

Costco have one in would there be much difference in the 2 as its slightly diffent code (65B) on for 539.98

    https://www.costco.co.uk/TVs-Electronics-Security/Televisions-Projectors/Televisions/Samsung-QE50Q65BAUXXU-50-Inch-QLED-4K-Ultra-HD-Smart-TV/p/394420
You have to be careful of "slightly different codes". It can mean missing features or lower quality components in a set built to a price. You just have to trawl through the specifications.

The slightly different code is probably so that retailers don't have to pricematch each other. Big chains who shift loads of TVs have a unique model number- it is just a different sticker on the back, but enough to make it a "different" TV.

Most likely they are the same TV inside, I can't find the Q65 on Samsungs website..

Hisense are China's most popular TV. You get good value for money, and if you get a good one it will be excellent. Reviews are mixed, depending on the build quality of the sample tested.  I'm put off by the poorly translated product specs ;)

Maybe this will help you decide: https://www.box.co.uk/48A85HTUK-Hisense-A85H-48-OLED-4K-UHD-Smart-TV-wi_4318941.html
It's a bargain. I'd pair it with a separate device for applications, buying it for the picture and sound quality alone.

Thanks, but I don't want one. I'd kill an OLED. I meant I'd be put off Hisense in general.
I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....

(except air quality and Medical Science ;))

Not quite under the £600 budget though.
And bizarrely the 55" is cheaper (but still well over the budget).

If you have a completely atypical usage like me, you'll kill an OLED.

According to LG, who make virtually all the OLED screens, the three things you must not do are

    1) leave the TV on for hours on a channel with a stationary logo in the corner* (especially red, like 90% of them are......)
    2) Watch letterboxed films or 4:3 content without using the "distortomatic" or "cut-off-omatic" modes that fill the screen.
    3) leave it on menu screens for ages- think plex, youtube, iplayer etc.

Unfortunately, I'm the only person in the world who does all 3 of those virtually all the time, so I can't use OLED.

*I've had a look at a mates LG OLED TV. The day The Queen died burned the BBC News channel logo into the screen- only faint, but once you've noticed it, you can see it all the time. :(

Perhaps you missed the point, but this thread is not about you. I'm only showing you that at the Costco price it's a crazy bargain for an OLED with a five year warranty.

I think you are right, I have missed something.
    But I can't see what.

    OP stated

You unfortunately will find the same advise on LED/LCD screens... they are less susceptible than OLED and both are massively less than Plasma were but none are immune.

Last client had LG OLED screen showing BBC News 12 hours a day almost every day but on the couple of occasions it was used for something else there was no sign of image retention so either your friend was unlucky or really had it on 24/7 for much longer than just the funeral.

  • It's difficult to determine the "best" quality picture TV in that price range, as it depends on personal preference and specific needs. However, some highly rated options under £600 include:

    • TCL 50S535 50-Inch 4K Smart LED Roku TV
    • Vizio M-Series M50Q7-H1 50-inch 4K HDR Smart TV
    • Hisense 50-Inch 4K Ultra HD HDR Smart TV
    • Samsung 50-Inch TU8000 Crystal UHD 4K Smart TV

I recommend researching these options further, reading reviews, and comparing the specs and features to determine which one would suit your needs best.

Thanks for explaining, that makes sense now.

In that case I second the recommendation by @Bonhomie for that Hisense.
