Just discovered your diary and decided to subscribe. I am currently reading through all the pages I have missed. From what I have read so far, you sound like a very inspirational lady and just the sort of person I can relate to. Hope you don't mind me dropping in.
I am 66 and definitely having to live on a budget as we still have mortgage and debts to pay. DH still works, as he is younger than me, but I started drawing SP this July and have a small private one. I like to think I am a fit and healthy 66 year old, although a few little ailments that I try not to think about. I believe in keeping fit in body and mind, holistic health and doing all I can to make my remaining years happy & healthy.Making the debt go down and savings go up

Good Morning My Lovely Friends.Hello Makingabobor2. Can I call you Bobo for short. 😁. Lovely to have you here. Welcome. Noticed your signature, well done on your debt busting and early mortgage repayment efforts. You are doing very well.Wellness Wednesday.Well how are we all. Hope you are all keeping well and making good progress on your wellness and fitness journeys. Tbh I have fallen by the wayside of late, in fact that it is one of the reasons why I have started posting again. I have not been consistent with my efforts and I really need to get back on track.
My "sabbatical" is now 3/4 of the way through and I had hoped to be further ahead than I am now. I seem to be slipping backwards.....so I'm aiming to post more regularly so I can hold myself accountable. Please feel free to give me a kick up the derrière because I need one.😂
As you may have guessed from my last couple of posts I have been having some gynae type issues and it's dragging me down. So although I have been getting some relief from the OTC remedies the pharmacist recommended, after further research I have decided I want to go back on HRT. I have an appt with a gynaecologist next week. As the old saying goes "I'm sick and tired of feeling sick and tired". Sod the practice nurse who said "what did I expect at my age". I refuse to accept that, I'm fighting back......
It's a nice dry day, so I am going to get out into the garden and start the autumn clean up, starting with mowing the lawns, it's a big job so I shall need to split it over two days.
I need to summon up courage and put myself on the scales ........ 😱
Have a great day y'all ❤️6 -
Just a comment about TATT- tired all the time.
A blood test revealed I was borderline vitamin B 12 deficient (not under active thyroid which is what I had thought) so it might be an idea to ask for blood test (s) ? they don't routinely test for B12 deficiency.
The one tablet a day makes quite a difference- I refused the injections! (Enough of those with Covid, flu & other things)
Keep wellBeing polite and pleasant doesn't cost anything!

Hi Katie......thanks for the reminder about B12. I did wonder if that might be an issue. Hope you are well.6

When you research B12 deficiency it suggests that many over 50s? &/or 60s? suffer from this... but not a routine blood testBeing polite and pleasant doesn't cost anything!

Hello all.
The rain last night really brought down the temperature which was a relief as I couldn't take the heat and humidity.
I just went to get a pedicure and I got a lovely red shade. I assume that will be my last one of the year as it lasts about 6 weeks and it should be proper autumn by then. I said I would book a full body massage there in a couple of weeks time.
We have our dog booked in tomorrow to have some teeth out, poor thing, so we are going out to a cafe and then into London to see the new Equalizer film.
I'm off to wash my hair with some new conditioner as the one I was using seems to make my hair look weighed down.

Thanks for the welcome. Yes, you can call me whatever you like...lol. I suppose I did choose a silly long username really.
You mentioned my signature with debt busting figures. Now that I am drawing my SP, my plan is to knock at least a year off the 3 years that are left on the mortgage, maybe more if we can. Also we are now getting some good offers on F&F settlements from creditors, so hoping to get them down quickly, although TBH, mortgage is priority as other debts are 0% interest.
Your nurses comment about "at your age", makes me so cross. Why do the medical profession seem to write us off as soon as we turn 60? TBH, I feel better now at 66 that I did at 56, but maybe that's because I now realise the importance of more exercise and better diet. But I fell and broke my shoulder almost 2 years ago and the consultant at the trauma clinic told me that "at my age" (64 at the time), I might never get my arm above my head again! What nonsense that was, I could do it before I was discharged from the clinic about 4 months after falling. Its all about having the right attitude and not thinking that because we are a certain age, we should feel a certain way.
So, Wellness Wednesday. I started the day with my normal morning stretch routine and then had to go food shopping....less said about that the better! Now just going for a wander to the local garden centre, Then I will go for a "proper" walk and an online fitness class later. I've had salad for lunch. Then later I am going to research if there are any Qi Gong classes in our local area, as I fancy having a go at that as it appears to have many benefits. I did try normal basic Tai Chi, but didn't really take to the instructor and there were far too many people crammed into a small hall, so it wasn't for me.Making the debt go down and savings go up

Re B12 deficiency - my last blood test showed that my B12 levels were very low. My doctor prescribed a liquid supplement rather than an injection. Just got it from the chemist in a syringe which I then dispensed into a glass of water and drank. It was colourless and tasted fine, and I only need to do it every three months. I believe that injections are usually for people with bodies that have problems absorbing B12 and those who have undergone gastric surgery. This is because the injections enable the body to absorb B12 without it having to go through the digestive system. The prescription I have lasts for 12 months so will see then whether I get another one or maybe just start taking a daily supplement.4

I really get angry at doctors and nurses who write things off because you are "old" or "overweight" or "don't exercise enough". My doctor said that a few years ago and almost killed me - I had a very low level of hemoglobin, so much so that they were amazed I was still able to move when I showed up at the emergency hospital. It was only caught because I was called in to try out for a clinical research study at a place I worked at ten years earlier. They checked my A1C and couldn't get a reading. The doctor there had a full panel of blood tests done and called me the next day and said go to the emergency room now. Had to have three pints of blood and a couple of emergency tests. Turned out I had a bleeding ulcer. My father always reminded me that the doctor's call it a medical practice - and they are practicing on you. Age shouldn't be factor - we have 5 Board members on our Friends of the Library Board over the age of 75 and we can outwork any of the younger people.4

Re the B 12 deficiency.
The doctor offered me injections or tablets. As I have needle phobia I don't choose injections unless essential! She said I could have a prescription for 3 months worth of tablets- after that- buy your own!Being polite and pleasant doesn't cost anything!
