Tesco Mobile Contract - Paid in Full for Iphone
Comments
-
In your original post; Now the Iphone at the time of purchase was on offer with a clubcard price £558 (full price should be £791.64)Were you made aware that the phone on its own was available to purchase for £558? In other posts you say you paid £568. What do you mean by (full price should be £791.64)?Tesco are saying they will amend the transaction to refund £11,50 airtime and £558 fir the handset, and as you have chosen to keep the handset they have deducted £791,64 from your refund. leaving you owing them £222.14 by my reckoning. To be honest I am not sure they can actually chase you for the money. but they certainly don't have to refund on the sim unless you also return the phone at the promotional price and pay full price for it.1

"Further to the confusion above, the final bill states 30/12/2022 30/12/2022 Charge for failure to return products 791.64 (-569.50**) * "Is that "bill" for information or is it a request fir repayment? Is there any indication of them expecting repayment? It may well just be explaining that you are not getting your £11.50 back.1

if anyone has checked the link to the deal I posted
https://www.hotukdeals.com/deals/iphone-13-128gb-for-ps56950-tesco-clubcard-price-4039493
it appears these final bills have been sent out on mass, and has caused a major reaction.
already people are posting of charges now being cancelled and this is from people who cancelled both within the 14 day cooling off period and outside.
Interesting Tesco's response (screenshots posted) state we have had a "FEW" emails.

>>Choose to buy the phone for the full amount upfront and you'll get it for £558, down from £792.
Must purchase a 1 month rolling contact, cheapest is £11.50 - can then cancel it and voila you've got an iPhone 13 for £569.50.
Thread price was changed during moderation, not sure why - either way, great deal still!<<
Then someone said
>If anyone is having doubts whether you can cancel straight away, see below:<
with a link to a picture that is no longer there....
So if you purchased a 1 month rolling contract & cancelled within 14 days. In effect you did not purchase one.Life in the slow lane1 -
I think Tesco have underestimated how far people will go to save £11.50, if they are wiping the charge for some they’ll probably do it for most who complain for the sake of PR if nothing else.In the game of chess you can never let your adversary see your pieces1

Can I just point out. Mobile phone company's sell phones now with 2 separate contracts, have done for a number of years.
The sim one stays at what ever price that it was for the duration.
The phone contract has 2 options (or 3)
1 x pay off the phone in full at the start
1 x pay £XXX upfront to reduce the monthly cost of the phone** ** this figure can be set by the customer for certain networks.
(the third being one price for both the sim & phone for the duration)
I myself have bought many Iphones, Samsung Android & Samsung Tablets all on a deal commonly referred to as O2 Refresh.
These deals (O2 Refresh) have all worked perfectly in the same way as Pay the phone in full at the beginning then cancel the sim within 14 day cooling off period
in the early days O2 Refresh did not allow you to pay off the phone in full when taking out the contract. you had to phone up, pay the remaining balance for the phone, then cancel the sim. again this never created any issues.
Then O2 changed their policy to allow you to pay the phone in full when taking out the contract.
I recall other people posting at the start of the HUKD Tesco deal, the same details. in so much this is for 2 separate contracts.0 -

HillStreetBlues said:But if as the OP has done cancelled in the cooling off period then the usage contract will be deemed as never has started so I can see Tesco wanting to get people to pay full price as they haven't taken two contracts but just one.
My very personal view would be anyone cancel in the cooling off period Tesco can claim full price, anyone who paid for first month gets the discount.0 -
Jumblebumble said:Ok so suppose the phone buyer ran up a huge bill by calling foreign mobiles and then cancelled in the cooling off period have you interpreted this to mean that they dont need to pay because there was no usage contract started?
https://www.legislation.gov.uk/uksi/2013/3134/made
So a person must pay.
Let's Be Careful Out There0 -

with the similar O2 Refresh deals. (2 contracts, I x phone, I x Sim) detailed above.
after cancelling within the 14 day cooling off period.
the only charge O2 would make was for x days of the sim only contract, this was never more than £2-4 pounds depending on the value of the sim only contract, again this was without actually using the sim.
I'm pretty certain I always got this small amount back when the final bill was processed after 14 days though.
** not 7 weeks like Tesco.
so in theory assuming it works the same way, Tesco could/should of charged me for x days of sim service when producing the final bill after 14 days (which would of been £11.50 divided by x days?) hence why with O2 I was always charged £2-£40
