sugestion Split up energy in mortgages and homes

Yes, we've asked several times for MSE to make this clearer. A lot of people (even well established ones) still post electricity and mains gas items under the LPG/other fuels subheading.Robin9 said:Please make how to post Electricity and Gas items clearer. We have LPG etc with the assumption that everything else is lumped under Energy.
Maybe they'll listen this time?0 -
We have tried to make the distinction between the main Energy board and the sub-board clearer by rewriting the description text for each board.
There are technical limitations to how much we can customise the main Energy page (ideally the elements would be in a slightly different order to make it clearer) but we've done what we can for now. The next version of the forum layout will give us more flexibility to adapt things.
In the meantime, we are now much more proactive about making sure posts on the wrong board are moved very quickly - I personally check this at least four times a week as part of my standard routine of forum housekeeping tasks.

The problem is, they breed! We had one - very vociferous - who has subsequently through direct misinformation created another one who is now increasingly problematic! With the smart meter rollout now set in stone, people running round on the loose terrifying others - and usually those most scared are the most vulnerable, sadly - are proving to be a real issue!jvjack said:EssexHebridean , 36 million households now have smart meters. A couple of conspirisists wont cause disaster.
Edit . Just a bit annoying lol
Electric/E7 should come under a “mainstream” heading IMO. I can certainly imagine not too many folk would look under “other” for queries relating to electricity!markin said:EssexHebridean said:Split between electricity and gas sections might work - but anything more complex than that is likely to lead to yet more posts in the wrong place I suspect. Also - please don’t split out to a a specific Smart Meters section - we’re having enough issues recently with conspiracy theorists and those who’ve been sucked in by their arguments - giving them a playground all to themselves sounds like a recipe for disaster!
Electric/E7 threads used to be under 'other' with LPG and Oil and the main board being Gas only, or both, I guess that board was seen as too quiet with posts being not seen?@MSE_James - one thing I suggested recently was that the reporting system could be enhanced with a “misinformation or fake news” option - in the specific context of the energy board this could really help as a way of dealing with the conspiracy theorists - at the moment we follow the guidelines of politely setting them straight, but in many cases it falls on wilfully deaf ears and they just immediately repeat the nonsense elsewhere!🎉 MORTGAGE FREE (First time!) 30/09/2016 🎉 And now we go again…New mortgage taken 01/09/23 🏡

I hugely second this, there are several posters who continually post conspiracy theories, deliberate misinformation as well as outright lies to push their agenda and rants. The fact that MSE fail to tackle this behavioural those is perhaps the one major blemish on the site, I cannot fathom why they are allowed to continue when their posts at best spread misinformation and conspiracy theories and at worst may actively harm others who end up following their advice.EssexHebridean said:

There have been some with a right bee in their bonnet. Every thread that mentions a smart meter, there they pop up saying how glad they are they don't have one. So boring for the regulars, and dangerous for anyone already slightly inclined to believe that stuff.jvjack said:EH , i remember the 5g conspirisists and covid etc but not seen any on smart meters. I would prefer the forum not to split. Keep it as it is.3 bed det. built 2021. 2 occupants at home all day. Worcester Bosch Greenstar 30i combi boiler heating to 19-20C from 6am to midnight, setback to 17.5C overnight, connected in EMS mode to Tado smart modulating thermostat. Annual gas usage 6000kWh; electricity 2000kWh.0

The is still the question of if Heatpumps should be under Electric or 'Other' Or will the pinned topics in 'other' continue to get special treatment, And if its 'other' should all heatpump threads then be moved to over 'Other' ???????MSE_James said:We have tried to make the distinction between the main Energy board and the sub-board clearer by rewriting the description text for each board.

Actually heatpumps could almost warrant a Topic of their own rather than lumping them in with oil, LPG and are getting ignored as no one really knows what "other" covers, so are asking their questions in the main Topic where they can easily get lost but generally my preference would be to leave it as it is.
Never under estimate the power of stupid people in large numbers0 -
I find it works in the format as it is.
There is perhaps some justification for a category specific to heat pumps but then I'm finding I'm learning about them just by general reading which I've no problem with.0
