  • I got one from Aldi today it's a Talex Lite. I thought it had a battery inside but you plug it into the cigarette lighter.

If it saves you a fine and points it's a good buy.

Fortunately I am not a fast driver but there are occasions where the speed limit goes from 40 to 30 and you may not notice.

We know they are out to get us, not for speeding just to steal from the easy target....... the unsuspecting motorist
  • Noone intends this to be an alternative to not speeding. It's about not begin caught out via a genuine mistake, like ambiguous signage etc.

What a load of crap!!! These things are simply about knowing where you can speed and get away with it!! "Ambiguous signage" has little relevance to being caught speeding. You as a driver should know what the lawful speed limit is by the type of road you are driving on. And if you arn`t sure what the speed limit is then surely you should err on the side of caution. Do you speed up the street where you live??? No course you don`t cos you don`t want to kill your kids do you!!!!! But you don`t mind risking the lives of other people!!!

They are advertised as the new version (Novus GPSRIDER) with the built in battery.... Talex are now obsolete and thier website doesnt even exist anymore.. Surprised at this as I was speaking to a guy in Tesco today and he said thiers are going into the sale for £19.99 because TALEX has went bust..

Although they will be able to update through the NOVUS site ...

The same can be said with sat navs then as they are more dangerous because of people fiddling and watching the screen
  • Well the one on the Aldi website a few days ago looks different in the photo from the Talex Lite I got today.

Well if Tesco are going to be selling them at £19.99 within the next few weeks customers will be able to take their Aldi one at £59.99 back within 30 days, as long as they have all the packaging

I've seen threads on MSE where people have made genuine mistakes with 40/30 limits. I'm not talking about residential streets. I'm talking about the ever extending range of dual carriageways and rural A roads that have unexpected limits on them. Bearing in mind that someone who sticks to all limits only has to make one mistake to become a 3 point statistic. The system doesn't care whether a driver cares or speeds all of the time. This sort of technology helps avoid those mistakes.

Regarding your "load of crap" I don't actually employ any devices myself.
    Happy chappy

Just for info... The GPS RIDER that is advertised seems to be the equivelent to the full fat TALEX as they have now released a new version called the DELTA that seems to be the Talex LITE.. Looks like there has been a mistake and they have fobbed people off with old out of date models now... Only problem with them will probably be that the database could be up to a year out of date and with NOVUS not up and running with the updates then be carefull just now..

    Just another little bit..

Been on the phone as well and I cannot get an answer as to who is liable for repair for TALEX should anything go wrong... It used to be TALEX themselves but dont know whats going on as NOVUS have said they only took over supplying the database from Embedded Technology not support for the hardware...
  • Well the box has a 3 year warranty on it so would Aldi not replace if faulty or give a similar model or refund ?

Halfords also have them but I don't know how long the warranty is ?

    OOOPPSSS

    One more

In order to get the free updates you will need to purchase an update kit from NOVUS now so that will be around £25 as well (unless they have started to package them with the lite maybe someone could let me know)
