I have just found out that the chase app will not work on the newer android phones. Tried to resolve it but no joy.

Believe the app needs to run Android 8.1? I use the app on my old iPhone 7, running 15.7.2 so would be surprised if it’s not working on latest phone?

It's the legacy 32-bit operating system that it's not compatible with. This is still found loaded onto some budget devices. The only solution is to replace your device with one running a 64-bit operating system. The newest hardware is now dropping support for 32-bit mode completely, so once the current generation of chips runs out, this problem will die out.

Works fine on my Pixel 6 running Android 13, so not the case for me.
This site has saved me a fortune :money: ...it's also cost me a fortune!

  • You must have Android 8.1 or greater, AND a SIM capable device with SIM card.   So it will not work on a tablet unless it has a SIM card installed.   I have a  Android 12 tablet (no SIM capabitlity) and an Android 8 phone and it wo't work on either.  So my only option to use their product is to buy a new phone.

My realme 8 5G has worked with Android 11, 12 and 13 as the updates have rolled out.

As above, you need the 64 bit version of Android as well.

I like Chase and use them myself but they're definitely not worth buying a new phone for when there are other options for 3%+ easy access and cashback available.

It works on Android 12 but didn't work on my old Android 10. As Masonic said it's nothing to do with Android version, it's 32 bit vs 64 bit phones.
  • Did anyone manage to resolve this? I've just got a brand new phone, went to install chase uk app and it tells me it isn't compatible. I'm now thinking that I'm going to either keep my old phone going and not use chase to make online purchases other than when I'm home with it, or close my account with them.

I suspect it's down to the new android go operating system for cheaper phones. My new phone is a better spec than my 4 year old phone, but android go didn't exist then.

Any Android device running an ARM32 version of the OS is a false economy. More and more apps will be going 64bit only as that is the way Android is going, maybe as early as the this year.

There is no easy resolution, Chase is a good example where there is no 32bit compatibility. If the phone has a 64bit processor with a 32bit OS then you could look to see if there is a custom OS developed for it that is 64bit and flash that. I'm guessing though that anyone who buys a 32bit OS phone is not that technically minded and not going to want to get into a world of modified phones and self maintenance.

Android Go was designed for developing market countries, or very basic devices. Its something to be avoided really in the UK if you want the full choice of apps. Fine if all you want is call, text and social media (although they may drop 32bit versions of their apps as well).
