Sorry the 2.37kw is the hourly heat loss, I had already divided by 3 so would that make my heat loss 296w per degree c?

    Is that quite high?

That depends. Were you just heating a single room? How big is the room? What's the external wall area and roof area of that room?

To figure out if it's high or not you're probably better off just comparing your annual gas usage to the average of similar sized properties.

Anyone replaced an lpg system with ashp?   If so how did you deal with the redundant lpg tank?

I'm doing that now. You just ask the tank supplier to take it away. There will probably be a fee but they should also credit you for any remaining gas.

If it is Calor, you might be in for a long wait, if my experience is a guide.

I had a call from Octopus this week to ask if the week of the 26th February is suitable for a survey to take place.  I will get another call in a few weeks with a more specific date and time.

Deposit was paid on 21st October 2023

  • Just been "invited" to manage my ASHP through my Octopus account with a hint that there may be some future benefit to doing this, anybody have an inkling as to what this / these may be?

20 January 2024 Daikin ASHP installed
  • Hello everyone,
Seriously considering getting the Heat Pump installation from Octopus. Just wondering if those who have had it done are happy with the end result and after sales service if it malfunctioned. The price is very competitive and certainly far cheaper than the other quotes we have had from both local and national companies. I suppose seeking reassurances before diving in. Any experiences would be appreciated whilst we consider our options. They proposing the Daikin monobloc 11kw ASHP. It runs off R32 refrigerant.
    Thanks in advance.

Don't know about the latest Daikin stuff but my Daikin ASHP is now nearly 14 years old.

Any major repair bills? Bearings for the outside fan etc?

What are the running costs for 14 years?

No repair costs at all - one problem with a stuck flow control switch about five years ago which I fixed myself.

Regarding running costs, thats not ever so easy as it doesn't have its own meter.

However averaged over the 14 years our total leccy consumption is around 7200kwh a year. We've had a couple of cold years when it went as high as 8600 and couple of warmer ones when it dropped down to just over 6000.

Our general summer consumption, including hot water from the ASHP is around 300kwh/month, so using that as a baseline we use 3600kwh a year for general use and the rest 3600-4000 a year for heating.

Our EPC (D) suggests that we need 12750kwh for heat and 2750 for hot water and thats for a 140m2 detached bungalow in an exposed position out in the Cambridgeshire fens and is occupied 24/7 (except for holidays and days out). Decent loft insulation (300mm+) cavity wall insulation when it was built in 1986 and double glazing in 1999.

It has Polypipe overlay underfloor heating laid on an uninsulated suspended wooden floor, which probably isn't ideal but we couldn't afford to tear up all the flooring to have it insulated underneath.
