I would suggest Octopus installs are more likely to be taking advantage of TOU tariffs like Cosy/Go/Intelligent.

Yes, I think the Octopus proposition is based on cost per delivered kWh of heat, rather than ultimate efficiency. Most people understand £s far better than kWh.

That should help the COP, but might not do much for occupier comfort!

Did anyone have an initial quote from Octopus back at the end of October has at least made an appointment for the survey yet?

I paid my £500 deposit on 23rd October and at that point the indication was an 8 week wait period (I presume to just get the opportunity to make the appointment) due to high demand.

I have since seen adverts by Octopus for heat pump engineers, so they are hiring, probably due to the high demand.

Apart from a few standard emails, saying "You are still in the queue, thanks for being patient", the last one on the 20th November, I have heard nothing yet.

Is it worth giving them a call, or is everyone else waiting too?

And 3.6 basically brings the cost of heating to almost equivalent as gas anyway (on the standard rate tariffs)
Ah but which Octopus customer would select a TOU electricity tariffs while forgoing a smart gas tariff like tracker, which offers 30-40% savings over standard rates?
    -  10 x 400w LG + 6 x 550W SHARP BiFacial Panels + SE 3680 HD Wave Inverter + SE Optimizers. SE London.
    -  Triple aspect. (22% ENE/ 33% SSE/ 45% WSW)
    -  Viessmann 200-W on Advanced Weather Comp. (the most efficient gas boiler sold)

Feel free to DM me if I can help with any energy saving!

Ooh,ooh; I know this one!  "The Octopus customers that don't have mains gas".  Is there a prize for a correct answer?

Same for me. Although my last 'thanks for waiting' email was on the 25th Dec.
    Install 28th Nov 15, 3.3kW, (11x300LG), SolarEdge, SW. W Yorks.
    Install 2: Sept 19, 600W SSE
    Solax 6.3kWh battery

Same here. Paid the £500 end of November. Still waiting. Last email was on 26/12.

If anyone has got a survey done recently, would be interesting to know how long the wait was.
  • Sounds like a good ruse.  You get lots of people to give you a £500 "deposit" then sit on all the money for a few months whilst it earns interest for you.

I paid the £500 on 30th Sep. I was offered the monthly £9 service charge free for the 1st year if I signed up by the end of September. Happy to help someone get their monthly sales target if it saves me a few quid.

Survey was done on 14th Nov but several queries raised by the tech team over the following weeks, so "final" documents and contract not received until 29th Nov. Signed and returned next day.

Got phone call a couple of weeks later saying there was a slight possibility we might need planning permission due to noise and they wanted surveyor to call again to check outside distances to neighbours. Had heard nothing since mid Dec. so called Octopus last week to chase. Surveyor will be coming this Thursday.

Still haven't been given an install date, only told springtime.
