Mistermeaner said:i had to google to be honest:
briefcase is 'holiday' setting - you specify a return date and the thermo sets to 10deg for the whoel time
rocking chair is 'day off' setting - it defaults to your sunday temps and timings for the day on which it is pressed (say you were unexpectedly at home on a random thursday)
wine glass is 'party' setting where it continues heating later into the evening /night than you would normally have it set
bit gimmicky if i am honest 0 when we go on hols we put to manual and set a low temp
when we have a party (never) or day off (missus always at home) we just leave it as is2 -
Mistermeaner said:if I want smart they would recommend a hive control that would do the modulation etc but not require the diverter valve changes
Afaik no other controls than WB's own will do bus level modulation (EMS is proprietary) for maximum efficiency, Hive certainly won't as it is TPI (same as your current controls so no point in changing unless you want app control, geolocation etc.).
(if you do go non-WB my preference would probably be Drayton Wiser over Hive)0 -

The 8000 Life System is apparently rated at 34kW https://www.worcester-bosch.co.uk/products/boilers/directory/greenstar-8000-life-system.
The ST9100A afaik is just a single channel time switch. EasyControl will let you program both CH & DHW so I would think that it could replace the ST9100A but I will admit to not knowing enough about the Megaflow to say for sure.0 -
FYI boiler installation completed today.
Total cost £3000 - this includes worcester green start 8000 30kW boiler (all paperwork says 30kW not 34) with added internal diverter valve kit for the megaflo (makes the combi into a system boiler)
Also includes a magnetic filter thing and worcester bosch smart control.
They also fitted 2X new TRV's for us and replaced a large radiator (we supplied materials they did work while system was drained down)
Really pleased with the boiler and controls - simple and easy to use and we can feel the difference straight away in house warmth and radiator temperature etc.
As part of install they did a chemical flush of the system as well (i think this is standard)
A few points that may be of interest to others:
- condensate outflow - we had no drain near where the boiler is fitted so have had to have a soakaway installed. I made sure they dug deep, as far away from house as possible and filled the hole with limestone chippings. If not done right soakaways can apparantly cause problems with acidic condensate water damaging foundations
- definetly worth making sure all your TRV's are working as they are an intergal part of a balanced efficient system. We changed most of ours last year and finished off as part of this install - including on heated towel rails (there is some advice out there syaing not to use TRV's on towel rails but our system is working better already with them - stops bathrooms become sauna's while the rest of the house cools)
- worcester bosch smart control seems great, not configured it for weather modulation yet but for normal timing settings etc its simple and easy and managed from my phone. This control replaced the 2 separate controls we had for heating and hot water - its now all in one place
- we will be signing up to the bosch £7/month service plan to maintain the warranty (12 years)
any questions please shout
Left is never right but I always am.2 -
Where did you find details of the £7 per month plan - does that cover the annual service? Everything is covered under the 12 year warranty as long as you get the boiler serviced annually.0
