O2 rpi increase +

Hi,
I'm trying to find out at what date it is that I can sign up anytime now to miss the O2 upcoming yearly price increase.
I don't want to sign up now to have a possible 15% jump in price after a few weeks.
Anyone know the cut off date please.
Thank you

I have a similar question but for EE if anyone can help with that 😃
I spent 25 years in the mobile industry, from 1994 to 2019. Worked for indies as well as the big networks, in their stores also in contact centres. I also hold a degree in telecoms engineering so I like to think I know what I’m talking about 😂

The end of March is when the price rises take effect, however there is a period beforehand where you can sign up and the increase won’t take effect until the next year… when I worked at EE a few years back there was a date in Feb where anyone signing up after that date weren’t affected that year… however I don’t know when that date is and my other half wants to upgrade, but also avoid the price rise this year… hence my query… and the OP’s…

The annual RPI inflation rate was 13.4% in December 2022, November was 14%. February rate will be the one that is used.

Am I missing something?  I have say a £1200 iphone from EE on an unlimited deal.  The contract cost is circa £90 per month, £50 pays for the phone and £40 for the air time.  The cost of the phone doesn't change!  Will my bill increase by 14% on the air time or will the iphone bought in September increase in price too?

[Tesco for example have 2 charges, one for the phone and one for the airtime - so a retrospective price rise would be obvious]

You are correct, it goes up on both with EE, unless you have one of their trial deals that split airtime and phone.

Is the £50/£40 amount specified in your contract or is it something you've made up?

If your contract specifies a handset and service amount only the service will go up, if you have a normal EE contract with a single monthly contract charge the entire charge will go up.

For EE the December CPI rate is used. The increase will be 14.4%.

O2 is RPI + 3.9% on the Feb rate, as you say.

The point I was trying to make is that on handset/airtime contracts such as the ones with EE, the increase of 14% across the whole bill is difficult to justify.  Some providers do split the bill which is fairer, the cost of the handset should not be subject to the inflation rise.

Unfortunately the contract as a single charge is the more prevalent type around, the split contract that o2 started is gaining popularity but there's still a lot of old style contracts out there. You are paying for the service with a "free" handset as far as those contracts are concerned.
