Comparing the airlines you "almost always fly with" and Loganair's fleet is like comparing apples and elephants.diystarter7 said:

Thanks
From your own site and I quote (for this reason we never have as we almost always fly, BA, Air Indian, KLM, Virgin and even TUI) Some really good tips how to ensure you sit together
Airlines rely on the fear factor to convince you to cough up for allocated seating – passengers worry if they don't pay up, they'll be split up. Yet while this does apply to Ryanair (see full help dealing with it below), it's not a general rule. Here's the key point to understand:Airline seating
How to sit together for free on British Airways, Easyjet, Virgin and more
https://www.moneysavingexpert.com/travel/airline-seating/A family of four could spend up to £240 extra to guarantee they sit together on return flights – yet unless your heart's set on particular seats, it's usually unnecessary. Here's how to sit together for free on a basic economy ticket.
Travelling with the family? The kids ARE usually guaranteed a seat next to at least one adult
The article you refer to uses the terms 'usually' and 'as long as' and 'always try'.
Lots of stories in the media about kids being separated from their parents too.
And it recommends "To give you a head start, we've compiled a table of when online check-in opens for 12 big airlines. Set yourself a reminder to do it as soon as you can (even if it's the middle of the night) – you have to move fast to nab those empty rows."
Not to go in earlish.
FTR, since covid, we have only flown with TUI, JET2, Easyjet on short haul routes.
Our experience is that a lot of people do reserve seats at the time of booking.
We check in online as soon as it opens and usually the first half of the plane in already booked.
But even that experience would give the OP no idea how such a small airline with much smaller planes (largest seats 70) would operate.0 -
I completely agree. We’ve done 4 flights with Loganair , 2 within the last year. It is unlike any other airline we have used, when we flew London City to IOM for instance there were 4 people on the flight and as it was a short flight I did not pre book seats . They allocated us seats when we checked in online but then changed us when we got to the airport and told us we had to stay In our new allocated seats for safety purposes, two of the people sat left and right at front of plane, and me and myOH sat left and right at the back. It was quite a weird experience. You also still get a free hot drink with biscuits!Pollycat said:

With Easyjet and UK airports you need your boarding cards for the baggage drop , so I suspect they don’t have any check in desks as such.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. I turned up about 25mins before checkin closed, just asked nicely if they could move me to a window seat, she put me on an empty row by the window, just in front of the wing so it was all good.
We are pleased for you, many thanks.

As per my post last airline we used when we returned from a hols in Indian March 2019, was Air India.soolin said:
What airline do you use that still only checks in at the airport? I know there are some still around, I believe British airways still have the facility , but even with BA I suspect most people are already checked in and have been allocated seats well before you get to the airport early to wait for the check in desk to open.diystarter7 said:

They are booked or preallocated so when you check in online before you fly (even if you haven’t booked a seat) the ones you’ve been allocated are confirmed so therefore are not available for people who turned up at the airport who haven’t checked in online. On my last two flights when I checked in online I left it quite late, about 24 hours beforehand and pretty much all the seats were showing as already allocated and not available.diystarter7 said:

ThanksObviously it’s different if the flight is not full, but for a full flight I am disagreeing that turning up early will get you the seats that you want.
As I said, we turn up early and the flights are almost good as packed most of the time and as per my previous posts, there is often at least 4/6 of us.
Read the MSE link previous post of mine, excellent info re airlines using the fear factor to get people to part with more money
Thanks
I never said they do not check in online, However, I clearly recall checking in at LHR. Our kids, especially one of our sons takes the leads but he was not going this time but dropped us off and spoke to check in to ensure we got the seats we needed and I did the same on the return for all four of us.
TBH, I was not aware re the 30 hour checking in slots online until I read the fantastic article from MSE ie link I posted.0 -

There is a report about it but loganair isnt mentioned
Kindly read the posts I was responding to in this lonf thread as it developed into a general, airline seats thread.
Again, I am pleased that as per my post and other posts and MSE link, OP turned up early and got fantastic seating.
Thanks0
