Most seats are not booked beforehand and posts on this thread confirm that.
OP, just go in earlish

Been on many flights, in many countires not encountered a problem once nor have my family/friends etc.
The only people pre-booking seats I know of are that who wanted more space.
As I said, go early.
My siblings are frequent fliers and we've talked about cost of flights etc and they've never had a problem
Thanks for sharing0 -

ThanksObviously it’s different if the flight is not full, but for a full flight I am disagreeing that turning up early will get you the seats that you want. All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

From your own site and I quote (for this reason we never have as we almost always fly, BA, Air Indian, KLM, Virgin and even TUI) Some really good tips how to ensure you sit together
Airlines rely on the fear factor to convince you to cough up for allocated seating – passengers worry if they don't pay up, they'll be split up. Yet while this does apply to Ryanair (see full help dealing with it below), it's not a general rule. Here's the key point to understand:Airline seating
How to sit together for free on British Airways, Easyjet, Virgin and more
https://www.moneysavingexpert.com/travel/airline-seating/A family of four could spend up to £240 extra to guarantee they sit together on return flights – yet unless your heart's set on particular seats, it's usually unnecessary. Here's how to sit together for free on a basic economy ticket.
Travelling with the family? The kids ARE usually guaranteed a seat next to at least one adult

As I said, we turn up early and the flights are almost good as packed most of the time and as per my previous posts, there is often at least 4/6 of us.
Read the MSE link previous post of mine, excellent info re airlines using the fear factor to get people to part with more money

UPDATE FROM OP
I turned up about 25mins before checkin closed, just asked nicely if they could move me to a window seat, she put me on an empty row by the window, just in front of the wing so it was all good.6 -

Cheap tickets are self service, ie, book and check in online. So book in online the minute you canI fly monthly and have never booked seats together but have always been allocated together ( more the pity lol )I fly all over the UK, the cheapest tickets, at least 6 weeks in advance and no luggage bar a carry on that goes under the seatAs soon as I book I put a reminder on my phone to check in0 -
