I don't have dogs now but when I did I used rubber gloves to get hair up out of carpet. Same idea as @Longwalker's trainers, it's disgusting amazing what comes up. You can also 'brush' dogs/cats with your rubber gloves on, just make like you're giving them lovely long strokes and see what sticks to the glovesMichael J Fox's middle name is Andrew.5 -
A slicker brush. You know those pet brushes that have 2 sides with different bristles on? One side is like a hair brush - thin metal bristles with a blob of paint (or something) on the end of each one. The other side has densely packed nylon bristles. So you use the metal side first to get the knots out, then the nylon side to smooth the hair, leaving dog/cat looking 'slick'.
Actually if you always sit in the same spot on the carpet to brush your pet, try running the brush over it and see how much comes up (!)Michael J Fox's middle name is Andrew.3 -

I use a damp flannel for around the carpet and stair edges and corners to get the dust out that the hoover does not pick up. i do the skirting boards at the same time so i dont have to get down on the floor twice
its amazing what dust balls the flannel pulls up!!!
When you know better you do better

I do the duvet roll as I have a king size and can not do the shake method now I’m on my own , but I also have a couple of duvet covers that the bottom opening does not run the full length , meaning it was always hard to pull down which ever method you use, so it cut the stitches on either side of the buttons so the opening is full width.I use a short bristled stiff brush on the stairs.
Also I had a roll of foil insulation used for under my laminate floor that I used to put behind the radiators.Focus on contribution instead of the impressiveness of consumption to see the true beauty in people.6 -
I have a small strip of ribbon sewed to the top of my duvet in both corners and in the middle. any new cover that comes in gets the same treatment as it only takes a few minutes to do. It's easy to tie the duvet cover to the duvet when the cover is inside and the duvet stays in place in the cover until you untie it.6

I bought these https://smile.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B0B4JVNGJS/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&th=1 maybe a bit fiddly for some.Friends of mine who have a king size duvet use three on top and bottom. My top tip has always been to have two separate duvets. It's the norm in many mainland European countries and saves those tussles and cold spots in the middle of the night without interfering with more intimate times. 😎7

I lived in Asia for many years and was taught to cook basmati rice by my neighbour's cook:-
Rinse rice in cold water
Leave rice soaking for 30 mins if you have time
Rinse again, you are washing away the starch which makes it stick
Fill up water to cook rice to your fingers first joint - i.e place your finger into the pot, touching the rice as if pointing at it, fill up with water till it reaches your first joint - no matter how much rice you are cooking - this is always the right amount of water
Bring to a boil, as soon as it starts boiling put a lid on the pot and switch off the stove. Don't touch it for 12 minutes.
Remove the lid and fluff the rice with a fork, you should find all the water has been absorbed and rice is perfectly cooked and separated
This method is only for basmati riceNo buying unnecessary toiletries 2014. Epiphany on 4/4/14 - went into shop to buy 2 items, walked out with 17!25 -

I'm overwhelmed by cat hair 🙄I'm assuming the sticky brushes that peel off a strip of sticky paper.I'd say go for a silicone brush or silicone dish washing thing [ a circle with lots of little spikes] or if you have a silicone scraper, that too.A slicker brush is a pet grooming brush that has hooked wire "bristles" Great on pets, even better on your carpet5
