Some really good tips here!For those who are composting leaves in dalek type composters - they do much quicker in the open - 4 bamboo canes and some chicken wire is all you need, chuck the leaves in and let nature do it’s thing and you’ll have some great stuff to mulch your plants with 🙂I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Health & Beauty, Greenfingered Moneysaving and How Much Have You Saved boards. This tip may be a bit controversial: the moment our pay lands in our joint checking account, I move money to a savings account that husband can't see. We have several joint checking accounts, but his 'savings threshold' (at which point he starts spending again) is way lower than mine. He agrees to the higher threshold, but then disregards his promise whenever he sees an 'opportunity' to invest. So far, the ROI has not been great, so I'm safeguarding.

Not controversial imo, it's wise.
I've had one for years, I call it my FOF - !!!!!! off fund. You've got a problem you need rid of, FOF will pay. You've got caught in a bad situation and need to !!!!!! off, FOF. Only used for absolute true emergencies. Himself knows I have it, but not what's in it or details about it, just that I have one.
Edit - I changed the 'u' to an 'e' for that word and the filter still didn't like it. Pretend I said frick off fund.I removed the shell from my racing snail, but now it's more sluggish than ever.11 -
@YoungBlueEyes
you had me at FOF!!!
I quite agree with you and @Siebrie it's good to have a stash tucked away. Mine has been my sharesave and sharepurchase plans at work. The idea for me is that we could only spend what we had in the bank (well and the credit cards but that's another story....) so the fact that money was being filtered off my pay before it got to the bank was a great idea. 14+ years on and redundancy meant I had enough to live on for a good period of time - in theory. The fact that the stock market nose dived last year and has done so again means I've yet to cash anything in but it can't be effected by taxes so and we have enough to live on (& credit cards.....) so I'm willing to be patient. OH thinks I've got enough for a weekend away or similar, not that it's potentially enough to live on for a couple of years.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on Debt Free Wannabe, Old Style Money Saving and Pensions boards. I hope that anyone who can stash any amount of money away can sort themselves a FOF. Please think about one for yourself. It’s not fun money, it’s for when you need to lay your hands on an amount of money NOW without questions, or having to ask for it.This really shouldn’t be controversial.I removed the shell from my racing snail, but now it's more sluggish than ever.14

Totally agree . An FOF or a RAF- a running away fund. My mother in law when she was alive ( obviously!) took me into the building society and opened a joint account for us with 10k - she had accumulated this in anFOF and getting on she was handing it on to the next generation . She said that every woman should have one…….14
