Legitimate parking fine after genuine mistake

I stayed at the Premier Inn at Christmas. I booked and paid for a parking space (as I have done in previous years). Yesterday I got two letters in the post (perhaps due to Christmas holidays/postal strikes) from parkmaven. One was the NTK to say I overstayed the authorised parking session, fine was £100 but would be reduced to £60 if I paid within 14 days - the 14 days has already lapsed! The other letter was a reminder to say that I owe £100.

I checked my parking receipt, and I made a mistake. Instead of booking to park from Sat 2pm to Sun 2pm. I only booked for half an hour on the Saturday. The cost of the parking is the same as it was when I booked (at the same hotel) in previous years. It was a genuine stupid mistake. The question is, can I appeal? Do I have any leg to stand on? I have tried calling the particular Premier Inn I stayed in but they were adamant (and fairly rude with it) that they could not help.

Where exactly does it say fine....
I wish people would answer this question
It doesn't, but your average victim will see it as such.

They don't have the knowledge you and the other experts here have as it's new to them and any kind of payment notice will appear to be a fine.

IMHO it doesn't help that the title of this sub-forum is Parking tickets, Fines and parking.

I'm just saying and please don't shoot me down in flames...You people do a fantastic job and I for one really appreciate it.
I say it because a lot of people say their paper work states it has the word fine on it and it never does:)
Fair point, you are right, it doesn't.

Forgive me, you're right, it doesn't say 'fine'. It refers to the 'charge'.
But nevertheless, I did park without (mistakenly) paying for my entire stay. Can I still appeal?

Thanks for your reply @Coupon-mad, I really appreciate it. I have been reading the forums on here and other documents but I'm confused as they seem to give conflicting advice.

I didn't overstay by only a few minutes, I wasn't parked outside the lines, I wasn't in a disabled bay, there is mention of POFA, the parking is not free etc. I was staying at the Premier Inn but only booked half hour parking and according to their photo I was there for 19+ hrs. Do I still have sufficient grounds to appeal to POPLA?

Different circumstances may demand different remedies.

You have only had one suggestion on this thread.

Right. If I respond ONCE only, should I use the TEMPLATE ''ONE SIZE FITS ALL'' FIRST APPEAL THAT DOESN'T SAY WHO WAS DRIVING: and attach my proof of my stay at the premier Inn? Forgive my ignorance and sorry for all the questions, but don't want to mess this up........because doesn't proof of my stay admit that I was driving? And 19+ hrs will be outside of any grace period?
