Total disgrace

Hi I'm new to the forum. I scrolled to see if there was a section on just having an opinion, but there wasn't. Any how I'm going to say what I'm angry about.
A young single mum is struggling to pay her energy bill. I know there are alot of people in the same boat. The thing I am angry with is they came out to her house to do what they had decided was the best option.
Taking into account she is struggling to pay the normal bill they have added a 90 pound charge for coming out.
This poor girl had to give up work because of her mental health, she is now under the mental health team.
Shame on you EDF.
I dread to think how many people may end their lives because they cant see a way out of a situation like this.
It's absolutely heartbreaking.
Thanks for allowing me to vent my

So what is the £90 fee for? If you explain that, people might be able to see if she can challenge it or not.

You haven't said what the problem is? who is the "they" that came out and what for and were they asked to come out?

If you read that in the media then they typically blow things out of proportion and don't include the main facts because it makes it a better headline.
Typically companies don't just come out and charge people £90 for being unable to afford their energy bills. There will be a lot more to it then that, for example, if she refuses to pay an estimated bill and also refuses to let them read the meter then they will try and send someone round, but they won't charge for this at the first stage. Now if you refuse to pay for several months in a row and also refuse any payment plans then there will be a charge.

she would only get charged a fee when it gets to PDV & warrant stage & that’s usually because the customer hasn’t engaged with the energy company after letters & messages have been sent. A lot of people are in the same boat but she needs to talk to them, not bury her head and hope it all goes away as it doesn’t

It's amazing how those with a can-do attitude and willingness to 'pitch in and work' get all the luck, isn't it?

Perhaps the OP could clarify whether they are asking for advice here on behalf of someone they know, or whether this is a straight response to something read in the media.

I thought that but then the website says it would normally not be charged. So I’m going with the person racking up charges due to doing an ostrich impression.
That may be mental health related though, where dealing with things can feel like an insurmountable barrier.
