I'd make the first thing I monitored that hot tub, to be honest...although I suspect you might wish you hadn't!🎉 MORTGAGE FREE (First time!) 30/09/2016 🎉 And now we go again…New mortgage taken 01/09/23 🏡

We're a 2 bed, electric only house with 2 adults and 2 children.. in the summer we average about 20kWh and in the winter up to 40kWh depending on dryer usage..
Most of our usage(especially in the winter) is over night though due to storage heaters (we only use 2) and obviously more tumble dryer usage.. we're at about £8 - £10 a day at the moment.0 -
3 bed detached property, was using on average of about 4 kWh until December, then it dropped to 1 kWh/day as nobody was home most of the time, which seems to have confused the energy provider as they now refuse to send a bill for December, saying "Provisional transaction which needs verification before being applied to your account". There's only me here at the moment and so I'm currently using 1.29A, so about 310W, so will probably be 4 - 5 kWh today again.I have CT clips on all circuits from the CU, so its easier to measure where all the consumption is.0

I would be interested to know what my hot tub uses at different temperatures and the feed to the garage and other circuits that I can not simply plug into a smart plug monitor.
Thanks.0 -

One with a hole in the middle that you have to feed a wire through (not good unless you are OK dealing with mains wiring), the second you just clip over the wire. There are a number of devices available - Owl & Geo Minim spring to mind. Basic battery operated devices with a display that are simple to fit & use. There are others that can be fitted inside a consumer unit (fuse box) and hooked up to a computer, but they require a higher level of technical skills to install & use..

We do have a plug in hybrid car with a 10.4 kWh battery so that probably accounts for a good chunk of usage. We also have a hot tub which is turned down low as it is rarely used at this time of year (I realise this is probably a massive waste of energy) and I am yet to establish the running costs but will try and do that now we can monitor usage. That is almost certainly accounting for the bulk of it. Assuming your house is relatively efficient and you are not leaving devices on all of the time, then your house use is likely to be in the 8kWh to 15kWh range. Your car may be adding 10kWh but the rest if probably down to the hot tub.I am also a Christmas light nut and had a lot of lights inside and outside the house which will be affecting the December figures to some degree.LED lights dont add much but older lights would. And if you are really a Christmas light nut then it could well increase a fair bit.

I will then try 24 hours without charging the car.
Cheers.1 -
The car computer should tell you somewhere the latest charge, but as its only 10kwh the isn't really a point in testing no charging, you should see the jump on the meter, Once the hot tub is off you will see what the average base load is and can deduct that.1

50-60 KWh a day is extraordinary. I used 106 KWh for the whole of December and am averaging 3 per day this month.Gas is around 25-36 kWh per day as central heating is on from around 5pm - 10pm each day.1

50-60 kWh? That's about 10 times our daily use, which for December was 5.8 kWh a day, and that includes all the extra cooking and baking and Christmas lights. But we're just 2 people in 3 bed semi with a gas combi boiler for heating and hot water. I think you'll find the hot tub is at least half of your daily usage.1
