What is your average daily energy usage please?
Options
I purchased and connected an In Home Display (IHD) to my smart meter just before Christmas as we had not had one previously. I am getting what I consider to be very high readings so would like to get a feel for what others with access to daily data are seeing if you are willing to share.
My data for just the last 3 weeks:
Electricity - 50 to 60 kWh's per day
Gas - N/A (we have no gas so use oil at about 2000 litres per year for heating and hot water)
Household - 5 people with someone home all day
Thanks.

How does the 50-60kwh compare to your bills? Does it seem accurate?
It is very high but first check your bills to see if you need to go on an energy diet3 -
We use about 9 units of electricity a day. Your usage is massive. Are you using fan heaters, immersion heater etc?

Welcome to the forum.
To be honest, what the usage of other forum members may or may not be is largely irrelevant. As Mstty suggests, the first step is to identify whether or not the IHD reading is accurate when compared to your bills. If so, that's a lot of electricity and the next is to identify what is using so much power and, if you want to make savings, reduce that usage where appropriate.3 -
Our summer use is around 11kWh per day on Electricity and our winter use is around 48kWh per day on Electricity.
Heating is via oil and typically we use around 2800 litres a year but only 1900 in 2022.
We made some adjustments to our electric use in summer which has seen a fall of 10kWh per day on electric. Electric use is heavy due to offices, farm/equine related machinery and an Electric AGA. (AGA accounting for about 37kWh by itself)Electricity - 50 to 60 kWh's per dayIt is rare to see someone use more than us. What is device(s) that is causing your high use as that has got to put you in the top 5% of electricity users for non-heating related use?

So for the freezing cold snap in December we were averaging 45-48kWh per day, with a heat pump for heating and hot water, electric shower needing to be on full not eco, using the oven, using the tumble dryer (sparingly but still more than our usual habit of not using it). We are all electric, 4 adults in a relatively cold moderately-sized semi-detached house, usually 2 or more people at home.
Before the cold snap, winter usage had been ~30kWh/day. Usual non-winter usage is around 15-18 (although the family member who worked the most hours had now retired and will be at home more so it may possibly go up to ~20 again next year).
If your IHD is correct, that is unusually high usage for a home not heated by electricity.2 -
We're an oil heated home, and with 3 gamin consoles, someone home all day, and a range cooker that's used every day, our electricity use is between 12 and 20 units per day house only.
If the electric car is being cut charged every day, which does happen then we're up near your usage.
Do you charge a car in that total?2 -
Over 12 years worth of energy monitory my average ANNUAL daily energy use is just under 20kwh a day however that reduces to around 7-10 in the summer and can ramp up to 50-60 or even more in the winter depending on how cold it is, whether we are doing the washing and a host of other things. We are also all electric but we do have a heatpump for heating and hot water
During December 2022 we got through 1149 kwh which is a daily average of 37 kwh but it did go as high as 69kwh on 13th December when it was very cold (around -8) and I guess my wife was doing some washing and the tumble dryer was flogging its heart out.
You really do need to see the whole picture over a longer period rather than getting panicked over a day or two when it may not actually be representative of your normal consumption - eg when its abnormally cold, you are at home all day and the washing machine, dryer and dishwasher are all called into operation and possibly you've been cooking for the whole family that's descended on you.
When my tribe arrives we end up with ten people instead of two, they all use vast quantities of hot water, the cooker and kettle seem to be on continuously, we have to heat the spare room and our caravan which gets used as accommodation, so extrapolating my annual consumption from those days of abnormal use, gives a much different figure to our actual average over the year.
TBH suddenly being able to measure something that you couldn't before isn't very helpful until you can understand what you used to use compared with what you are now measuring. You need historical data over a longish period to find out what is going on and to be able to understand it and control it rather than just a short snapshotNever under estimate the power of stupid people in large numbers4 -

Begin by looking for things that produce heat - immersion heater, electric showers, tropical fish tanks, electric heaters that someone is secretly using in their rooms etc.3 bed det. built 2021. 2 occupants at home all day. Worcester Bosch Greenstar 30i combi boiler heating to 19-20C from 6am to midnight, setback to 17.5C overnight, connected in EMS mode to Tado smart modulating thermostat. Annual gas usage 6000kWh; electricity 2000kWh.1 -
I’ve just looked at our daily usage. We are 2 in a five bed detached house, with oil heating. Our electricity usage over the past year has been between 14-17 KWh per day.We have electric oven, dishwasher, washing machine, tumble drier ( rarely used) and showers.I’m looking forward to getting a smart meter and IHD installed next month. ( If they actually turn up this time…)1

Thanks everyone for your useful feedback and suggestions which have given me a lot of food for thought.
I have just checked our December statement from our supplier and we are averaging 57 kWh's per day from 29 Nov to 28 Dec so the IHD appears to be accurate.
We do have a plug in hybrid car with a 10.4 kWh battery so that probably accounts for a good chunk of usage.
We also have a hot tub which is turned down low as it is rarely used at this time of year (I realise this is probably a massive waste of energy) and I am yet to establish the running costs but will try and do that now we can monitor usage.
I am also a Christmas light nut and had a lot of lights inside and outside the house which will be affecting the December figures to some degree.
I have realised the smart plugs I use have a built in energy monitor so I am going to monitor various items over the coming weeks and as suggested monitor usage over a longer period of time.
I am determined to get our usage down to a more sensible and environmentally friendly level.
Thanks all.
