Can you see anything like this on your past bills

That is mine from Octopus, so yours may be different, and you would ideally look for one that says something like "Smart meter reading" or "Customer Reading" or "Actual Reading" or "S" or "C", rather than one that says "Estimated" or "E"
If you can find this on your 2020 or 2021 bill and then again for a more recent one, it will then allow you to work out how much you use during a period of time, such as a year0 -
Thank you Matty for your response.Mstty said:Ok this isn't going to be easy.
Would I be right in suggesting you really have not been interested in energy use in kWh and what you use whilst energy prices were low (don't worry a lot of people are like this including us a year ago)
Therefore as long as the monthly amount was ok you didn't check your meters or query bills that were always estimates? No that is not the case hence my Originsl post. I have submitted regular readings and realised about 12 months ago that despite my regular submission of readings EDF are going off estimates. As my op reads, up until July 2022 I have been paying £160 pcm for my gas & electric. Since July 2022 my bill has more than trebled. You may wonder why did it take someone 12 mths to post well it’s been ongoing battle with EDF to accept my accurate readings, bar the dodgy night reading. I’ve not had my head in the clouds.. I’ve raised various complaints and EDF only requesf for readings twice a year…0 -

I have gone off Robins advice who kindly suggested I email EDFs resolution centre as I don’t think any bill should be cancelled and no longer visible.0 -
Thats great ok. Any chance you have any record of those readings you sent into EDF before your meter stopped working. Ideally some 12 months apart or near to.Sus100 said:

Just trying to get a jist of your actual usage not estimated.1 -
If the "estimated" readings are correct, and there is really a debt of £895 than the £594 sounds very realistic.
7639 x £0.455 = £3489.40 (cheapest EDF E7 day rate)
30268 x £0.102 = £3087.34 Gas
Debt £895
-----------------------------------------------------------
£7471.73
£622 per month
That is excluding the night usage.
You need to give us urgently real meter readings so we can see if the estimates are correct.
Going from the estimates the direct debit EDF is asking for would be justified.
What were the readings you submitted 12 months ago, and what are todays readings?
Were you on a fixed tariff before July?0 -
These bills are not easy … I’ll see what I can find. I can tell you I was on a fixed tarrif up until Apr 2022. SoMstty said:

maybe my head was in the clouds/relaxed, as I knew we were fixed up until that point.0 -
silly thing to ask. but did you maybe email edf to ask why they werent using your readings and include the readings? or did you take pictures of the meter that are still in your phone history (we take pictures because otherwise we'd forget the reading between the meters and the laptop!). anything like that.Sus100 said:

its best if we could have 12 months but if you maybe even have 6 as long as it includes some winter and some summer we could give it a guess and see if its anywhere close to edf's estemate.Almost everything will work again if you unplug it for a few minutes, including you. Anne Lamott
It's amazing how those with a can-do attitude and willingness to 'pitch in and work' get all the luck, isn't it?

I am having considerable difficulty in contacting EDF. More so because I have a form of tinitus which can at time make telephone conversations difficult, and EDF`s telephone operators clearly not having English as first language, mean we are continually having to have them repeat what has been said. I have sent multiple E-Mails to the "Complaints" address to which I get only automated "we will be dealing with it" replies and nothing else. I have already (2020) had occasion to take EDF to the ombudsman, who was about as usefull as the chocolate fireguard BTW?. Anyone have any idea`s as to the best way to get a response. I even considered stopping my D-D. to see if that focused minds?.Cheers Pete0

Stopping your DD may incur extra charges going forward. Suppliers under their Standard Licence Conditions are required to use the readings that a customer provides for billing; HOWEVERPeteH1943 said:I am having considerable difficulty in contacting EDF. If your billing dates are, say, 31st March and 30th September and you provide an actual reading on the 10th March then many suppliers will produce an estimate for the 31st March bill based on the reading provided on the 10th. The solution to this is simple: provide a meter reading on your billing date.
Rolling back of statements is normal practice. Suppliers will rollback charges from the actual meter reading provided to the last actual meter reading. Then will then produce new bills which include estimates for any tariff changes/dates.0 -
I've had success every time when contacting EDF via direct message on Twitter.0
