I'm heartened to read your post @foxgloves. Thank you as ever for sharing practical tips, I'm sure some readers, like me, will have stored those ideas away under 'what to do if...' in case of future emergencies. x5

Very glad he’s back. They are SUCH a worry, aren’t they? Wishing you a peaceful and drama-free weekend'In the widening gap between credits and debits hangs a question: What parts of this life are you willing to give up, so you can keep on living?'

Thanks all. Yes, we are hugely relieved. One of my catty FB friends had all sorts of ideas for scent-marking gardens to help assist the return of errant felines. I did know about putting litter trays outside....though ours don't have them....but not about pegging their blanket on the line & strewing hoover contents in the garden. I shall remember those tips but hope I shan't need to use them anytime soon. Our vacuum is certainly always full of cat hair!

I’m very relieved for you that Soot managed to make his way home without harm to himself. Missing cats often feature on our community social media pages (thus far all have returned thankfully) and I always appreciate the heads up to go and check the sheds and gardens to make sure that we don’t accidentally have a captive. I hope you can have a relaxing afternoon with your new book.7

I am still of the opinion that cats go awol deliberately so that they can check that their slaves will still be distraught. It works every time too.

Cats do get themselves into scrapes, don't they? We once had a particularly stupid feline who walked about a mile along the lane, turned left into a field, and was lost for almost a fortnight. Quite unexpectedly, as we had more or less given up on her by this time, I saw her sitting at the side of the lane when I was driving the children to school one morning, so stopped, opened the door and bundled her into the car. She was hungry when we got back home, though I imagine she had managed to sustain herself by drinking water from the cattle trough and catching mice and other small rodents, as she was a skilled hunter, despite her lack of brain power!
